‘Hon Fahie power-hungry!’ – Radio show caller alleges

- said spat between him & eventual Opposition Leader Hon Julian Fraser RA looked bad
A caller into the Three D talk show on ZBVI 780 AM last evening August 21, 2015 said that the spat between Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) ‘looked bad’ in the eyes of the public, especially when in 2014 the Virgin Islands Party Congress voted for Honourable Fraser to be the Chairman of the party. Photo: VINO/File

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A caller into the Three D talk show on ZBVI 780 AM last evening August 21, 2015 opined that the spat between Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3) and Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) "looked bad" in the eyes of the public, especially when in 2014 the Virgin Islands Party Congress voted for Honourable Fraser to be the Chairman of the party.

He said too that the attitude and actions of Honourable Fahie came across as “power hunger” and he did not believe that Honourable Fraser would be comfortable working in the House of Assembly with him.

On the show which dealt with several issues, the caller said that at that time Honourable Fahie made no protest against Honourable Fraser being Chairman of the party though both gentlemen contested the position.

“Then they lost the election and his (Fahie’s) Committee members wrote to the Governor concerning the situation and how he felt about it and the Governor gave them a month and a day to come together to decide the fate of the Opposition and they did not,” the caller said.

“I think it is foolishness now for the Representative for the First District to be [holding on to that view] because the Congress did not do anything for a whole month and a day,” he said.

“I think that either the Representative for the First District was power hungry or something like that. I don’t think Honourable Fraser would be comfortable working with him in the House of Assembly,” he said.

Doug Wheatley holds a different view

Host of the show Doug Wheatley said in terms of Honourable Fraser and Honourable Fahie working together he does not see any problem with this.

“They may have had a little difficulty in the past but for the sake of the country and the party and themselves they can’t dwell on what happened in the past. Once they get there they have to work for the people and I believe that they will do that,” he said.

However, the caller insisted that Honourable Fahie seems dissatisfied still with how things have turned out. “It seems like the Representative for the First District is still not happy because they are all blaming Mr Fraser for the loss of the elections. That it is the way it is coming across,” he said.

“But I prefer Fraser,” the caller said, insisting that he was speaking his views and that people may not agree with him.

There is to be an internal election of the Virgin Islands Party on September 2, 2015 where the posts of Chairman, President, Treasurer and a host of others become vacant.

Reports are that Hon Fahie may be contesting for the position of Chairman.

Chapter now closed

In a brief statement in response to this news site’s queries, Honourable Fahie said that he respects the Governor’s decision and looks to move forward.

“The process as outlined by the Virgin Islands Constitution Order 2007 was followed by the Governor,” said Honourable Fahie. In that regard I respect his actions. I have congratulated Honourable Julian Fraser RA on being appointed Leader of the Opposition.”

“This chapter is now closed. We can now more than ever move forward together in being steadfast in purpose and diligent in actions in the carrying out of our duties,” said Honourable Fahie.

However, Honourable Fraser when asked by this news site whether he would be contesting and for what position he declined to comment saying that commenting on the issue would not serve in the best interest of the party.

Situations often dictate changes. The last election was one situation that dictated a change. We need to adjust our own loyalties and engage or at lease entertain the reality. I Don`t think Fahie is the change VIP needs-----Then again everyone entitle to their own opinion.

Anyone running for office tends to be power hungry as they are set or determine to achieve their goals on winning their seats. That is why most of the time what they really set out to do is neglected.I really hope the young of the two will be given the opportunity to bring something good to the table to take the party forward and the same goes for Dr Smith. Too much conflict of intetest.

There is a section of the VIP that intend to try to destroy Fahie despite he and his people in the 1st District has been faithful to the VIP and continuous vote getting machine for the VIP both At Large and at the District level. That's what is ashame to me.

Those are VIP votes not Fahie votes. 1st district is VIP territory not Fahie's.

If you think those votes are VIP votes and not Fahie votes then you are seriously fooling yourself.

This is a good set up by Fraser & his gang to try to paint Fahie as the VIP's problem. What a pity.

Everyone in the BVI who is not in the majority of the VIP Congress knows that Fraser is the downfall of the VIP and not Fahie. Jack I tell you what a set of evil people.

Fahie leave this set of power hungry portion of the VIP alone with the Chairmanship for now. Time is always the greatest balancer.

I don't think that fahie is not power hungry as it relates to the Virgin Islands Political Party; me might be power hungry to become a minister of government again: it is public knowledge and therefore no secret that others with in the VIP's Camp have a serious issue with Fraser: it is the general consensus the Virgin Islands Political Party will not become a ruling administration with Fraser as its leader: I am not making this stuff up, a majority of the members associated with the VIP wrote to the Governor..I think that fahie along with the majority of potential candidates with in the current Virgin Islands Party are simply looking out for the future of the VIP; after all the VIP been around for well over 30 years and to allow one man(Fraser) to kill off the VIP is unreasonable ( ting to talk!!)

Ralph have to take some of the blame for allowing the party to go to shambles...He with his selfishness refused to groom some one to take over the party and to take over his district...Fraser had no choice but to run with a majority of lame horses...Dawson, Andrew and Fraser were the only 3 that were saying something...Zoe was in a distant 4th player.

If you've noticed recently, Fahie is in the news every day trying to make himself look good after being accused of trying to out muscle Fraser with another bunch of losers. The masses already cant trust this man and all of a sudden he is in the news every week looking like a savoir. Some of his people in his district don't see him for months with countless calls going unanswered.

I need honest opinions ladies and gents...Do you think it was Fraser's fault that Rajah lost to Mitch? Do you think it was Fraser's fault that Roxy lost to Mark? Zoe was sabotaged by people who she thought were with her. Do you think it was his fault that Juggy lost to Alvera? Do you think it was his fault that Maynard lost to Kedrick? Do you think it was his fault that Walters lost to Marlon? And do you think it was his fault that All out lost to Oneal? COME ON! Give me a break! The team was very weak and couldn't carry the atlarges.

You just answered your own question jack$$$&. Fraser could not attract better candidates which is why they lost. He was Chairman over a year before campaigning started and could not put a team together. You are fooling yourself.

Think tactics. By denying the VIP the other seats they prevented Fraser becoming Premier of a VIP government. If Fraser's methods made people dislike him so much, then , yes, it was his fault.

From day one after Andrew lost the bid to become leader of the party, he and his band of supporters in the party did all they know to undermine Julian. It have a deep under-current in the VIP party that want things done their way only. The VIP wasn't willed to nobody. DEMOCRACY RULES!

Why who all against Fraser and his gang don't leave the party and form a new one?? Andrew will never beat Fraser because of the lack of trust or unless the congressional list is tampered with.

They need to leave Frazer alone and stop from blaming him for the defeat of the VIP. The poor selection of candidates on the part of the VIP Congress and their inability to present factual information to the general public is what contributed mainly to their loss. Even though I don't always agree with Frazer, I think it is downright unfair to cast the blame on him.

Two things you leaving out. First, Frasrr is the leader & had a hand in the selection of the candidates. Secondly, no good candidates wanted to run with the VIP as long as Fraser is head and that will never change. Fraser is not a leader & he is not genuine. Time will tell.

I don't blame Fahie at all. I don't see him as power hungry. You have F**** and his gang telling people that if Fraaer isn't the leader then that is the end of the VIP. To me that is a dictator mentality

I have been in many organizations with Fahie over the years where he was the leader & where he was a follower and I must say he is one of the best teammates anyone can ask for. I have noticed this about Fahie for well over 20 years. He is a little rowdy at times but his heart is pure and he works for the common good.

Alvin and especially Dancia were two failures. If Dancia was so popular and strong then why she didn't win when she ran At-Large just now. Also she got such few votes in the 7th & 8th District where she is from so blaming Fahie for her downfall is baseless. She was a Minister with a Ministry and she has nothing to show for her efforts. She can only blame her own la*y self.
