Hon Fahie fires back in stinging rebuke of NDP Chairman

…says VIP will not be sucked into Hon Walwyn’s distraction tactics

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Opposition Leader and Chairman of the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1), has fired back at his political nemesis—recently elected Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP) Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL)—saying the VIP “will not be pulled into his tactics of using weapons of mass distraction.”

Hon Fahie’s stinging rebuke of his political opponent comes in wake of reports that the NDP Chairman has accused the VIP of instigating the question of his eligibility to sit as an elected member in the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly.

According to the VIP Chairman, the party “is about the issues, such as restoring the middle class and an economy where all can thrive… about restoring accountability, transparency and good governance.”

Restoring Accountability

Hon Fahie is adamant, “the VIP will not allow anyone to pull us into their storm but rather we will pull them into our mission of working towards creating a better Virgin Islands for all.”

Media reports suggest Hon Walwyn has claimed that the VIP is behind the ‘eligbility witchunt.’ Investigations by our newsroom however, reveal quite the opposite and that the questioning of his eligibility is in fact being pushed by persons within the NDP.

Hon Fahie says the VIP is more interested in pushing a legislative agenda that will restore good governance, transparency and accountability in the VI Government and its elected officials.

Not Interested

The Opposition Leader in recent weeks held a series of public meetings with residents of the Territory, where he has been expanding on his proposed agenda through legislations such as The Whistle Blower Legislation for public officers and for ‘Integrity in Public life.’

He is also pushing for legal mechanisms to have Cabinet decisions being made public, except for those that have security concerns especially National Security, “Register of interest of public officials being made public; Decentralization of Government resources to districts so that district representatives are given more autonomy in their districts where they no longer have to be at the mercy of five ministers.” “These and more are the issues that VIP will be pursuing on behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands,” Hon Fahie contends, insisting the party is not interested in distraction tactics.

I like his initiatives... reduce the power of the Ministers placing them in the hands of the people and the district. Don't trust Walwyn to seems like the type that will abuse power.

I am so sick and tired of this man. Lord help us all if he wee to be premier of the Virgin Islands. Put you energies into improving the education system for our children rather that you TRYING to distract the voters with this bull. Why don’t you tell us how many times the students have to retake the exams for graduation so you can look good?

Hon. Fahie, God is in control. That man fully well knows that it is his own party people who are questioning his eligibility. He realizes that you are moving ahead with your candidates while he is having issues pulling a team together. I KNOW that you will remain focus and not be distracted by this foolishness.
The president of the VIP first district committee is a Virgin Islander born in St. Kitts. You were the one to bring on board at the Ministry of Education and Culture a Permanent Secretary who is a Virgin Islander born in Jamaica. I remember when you were the Minister of Education and a school year there were more children entering school than the schools could accommodate who were born of expatriate parents and you told the staff to find space for the students. You Fahie said: “They are Virgin Islanders, find space for them.” So who want to listen to this man trying to make you look like you are behind this situation when he fully well know it’s his own party, I sorry for them. The same set who said Caribbean people didn’t see a $100 bill before they came here, is the same set who is questioning his eligibility.
    Strupes man!!

@reality, you are speaking the truth. More scholarships were given out under Fahie than any other Education Minister. He wasn't about were your parents from. He sincerely likes to see young people prosper.

Instead of trying to blame Fahie, tell us about the $1.3 million contract that was signed with the Crabbes to repair the college buildings prior to NDP internal elections.

I have been saying this for over 15 years that each community should have their own funds to take care of their own community, and they shut me out at each meeting. Most of what I have been saying is now being repeated by the politicians, which is a good thing because people will listen to them. My only problem is they wait too long to move on anything. The entire BVI could be so much further ahead if they would stop the fighting and do what is right for us.

some of those who picking political sides probably have something to gain following elections: the average joe blow only have a say or important just before vote day: the historic political record will reflect wrong doing from many years ago: back then we did not have the social medias or online news like we have now(the advent of social media now allows the people to stay abreast with the happenings)....most of the old-talk is purely political grandstanding because for years is the same talk over and over: not one of the 13 have stood in the house of assembly and seek to pass any laws that will stamp-out corruptions(just bunch of he say; she say over and over) SOSDD(same old sh!t different days): let’s get some laws on the books(if we serious about fixing and moving forward)....same old topics for the past 10-years !!!!
