ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – First District Representative and former Education Minister Hon. Andrew A. Fahie has dismissed the notion that he had any previous knowledge of the mould situation at the Isabella Morris Primary School, calling the claims ‘political mischief’.

“It was never brought to my attention,” Hon. Fahie said, “that goes without saying, I find that to be political mischief for it to even be implied.”

Hon. Fahie made the comments as a guest on the Morning Ride radio show with Paul “Gadiethz” Peart on ZROD FM earlier today, May 15, 2013.

The Opposition Member challenged anyone to produce any information to suggest that the information was brought to his attention while he was Minister for Education. The First District Representative said he would hate to know that anyone knew about the problem before and did nothing about it.

“I personally brought it to the attention of the Minister long before the [NDP On the Road] meeting in Carrot Bay,” Hon. Fahie added.

He said he did it privately and didn’t feel that the situation needed to be escalated to create political points for anyone.

The First District Representative also noted that the problem had been approached twice before and none of the persons who dealt with it had gotten a “handle” on the situation.

“Now, the thing is to get in professionals, which the Minister is stating that he is trying to do.”

The students of the Isabella Morris Primary school have since been relocated to the Cane Garden Bay Community Centre following a mould outbreak at the school that has reportedly caused some 36 students to seek medical treatment for mould related infections.

Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn told the House of Assembly yesterday, May 14, 2013 that there were no funds budgeted by the government towards the building of a new school as was discussed previously by stakeholders of the school.

i WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THIS WAS A SUITATION BEFORE IN VIP TIMES IT WAS NOT A ISSUE . SO WHY THEY MAKING IT A ISSUE NOW TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THE PRESENT MINISTER TO BE BLAME. THE PROBLEM IS IT WAS A ISSUE IN THE FORMER MINISTER TIME AND HE DID NOT GET THE PROBLEM SOLVE. SO IT LEAVES TO THIS MINISTER IF HE IS THE SAME AS THE FORMER ONE.WHEN VIP WAS IN THEY DID NOT ACCOMPLISHED ALL THEY WANTED TO DO BUT NOW THEY BEHIND OF THIS GOVERNMENT TO DO WHAT THEY WAS TO DONE DO. ITS NOT GOING TO WORK SO EASY.

I am a parent of a student who wrote the Primary V Exam recently and I listened to HOA with baited breath waiting to hear where the matter of the changing of the weighting for the exam was taken to Cabinet and as far as I heard, it wasn't and also when the Principals were notified and likewise there was no confirmation. So there you go, they went and did things behind the scenes and wanted to make the Principals and Primary V Teachers look like liars. What a Backfire!

Instead of dredging up old stuff that we are already aware of, why doesn't the Minister of Education learn how Government works and how policies should be changed. He is acting like a child who was caught doing something wrong and trying to shine the light on someone else. Whatever!

Don't campaign on the bad someone did and promise to be different and get elected and do the same thing or worse.
