ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Another bombshell announcement has rocked the National Democratic Party (NDP), this time with the resignation of its Treasurer and Founding Member, Honourable Archibald C. Christian (AL).

Hon Christian holds the NDP Government portfolio of Junior Minister for Tourism and a party position of Treasurer.

In his resignation letter addressed to the NDP Chairman, Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL), dated today, November 13, 2018, Hon Christian said the resignation, is with immediate effect.

According to a copy of the resignation letter seen by Virgin Islands News Online, Hon Christian informed the party leader that, “it is with sincere regret that I write to inform you that effective immediately I hereby resign from my position as Treasurer and member of the National Democratic Party.”

Founding Member

He went on to remind the recently elected NDP Leader, “As you are aware, I was a founding member and as of June 2018 elected Treasurer.”

Hon Christian informed the NDP leader that the party’s financial records have since been turned over to “former deputy treasurer Mr Russell Harrigan.”

The resignation by another of the founding members of the NDP, comes just hours after the party’s Vice President, Dr Michael A. Turnbull, also tendered his resignation.

The resignations of both Dr Turnbull’s and now Hon Christian, come days after the NDP Executive Meeting heard that Ms Shaina M. Smith, who also served as Chairperson of the party’s Women’s Association, also tendered her resignation, with immediate effect.

The NDP has split and continues to suffer the loss of numerous stalwarts, ever since the recent election of Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL) as its new Chairman and Leader.

According to senior sources in Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton’s (AL) Virgin Islands Progressive Alliance (VIPA) wing, more resignations are expected in the coming days.

The NDP Tectonic Plates are alarmingly shifting. The NDP like the Titanic is sinking and the crew is jumping overboard. Are the jumpers courageous to jump off a sinking ship? There have been chink in the NDP armour and fissures in its structure for years yet many pretended that all was well, the ship was water tight. No medals for the jumpers. If they had spoken out when the failures were clear to the blind, perhaps some praise would be deserved.

Don't know what Archie is trying to prove. If he's not running again, why all of this? (Especially taking his letter to the media). You say you were not running again , so just sit down. As far as I remember, Myron was a vip. That same ndp group is who went for him to run with them now they claim they running from him.. nonsense! For the sake of the country you all need to get yourselves back together

Everyone has something to say whether positive or negative. I would hope that the members who have tendered their resignations have done so due to their own professional, personal and or ethical beliefs, however those decisions are of their own. I would think that we as Virgin Islanders have enough education and common sense to follow our own beliefs and not those of propaganda. It is time that we RISE UP and let our VOICES be heard and decide who and what kind of future and legacy we are leaving for our children. There will always be negative and/or positive comments, rumors, accusations, etc., about person's holding or aspiring to be elected officials but sometimes we have to decide if those are just that RUMORS OR TRUTHS. We the people of the Virgin Islands have got to learn to VOTE for the officials who are willing to do RIGHT by our COUNTRY and not the DOLLAR.
Always remember in order for our memories and legacies to continue we must have a FUTURE.
