ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - While few media houses have carried the information, the House of Assembly will be meeting today September 25, 2014.

It will be the 10th Sitting of the Third Session of the Second House of Assembly and begins at 10:00 AM at its Chambers in Road Town, the Virgin Islands’ Capital City.

Many residents and former legislators have complained bitterly that following the 2011 general elections the House of Assembly (HoA) has been one of the biggest jokes in the Virgin Islands with its operations and the behaviour of members and the Speaker Honourable Ingrid A. Moses.

Opposition members have said the Speaker is one-sided and bias and they accused Hon. Moses of convening an illegal session at the September 11, 2014 sitting that saw two members Hons J. Alvin Christopher (R2) and Andrew A. Fahie (R1) boycotting the sitting in protest.

Opposition Leader Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE (R9) has also complained about the late start of sessions and said it’s important to preserve the institution by starting on time.

Former Legislator and cultural icon Eileene L. Parsons OBE have dub the HoA a “circus” and said the people have stopped tuning in to watch the sessions, as they no longer see the institution as relevant to their lives and daily struggle.

Walwyn who the public have pointed to for contributing the most to bringing the HoA into great disrepute by insulting companies, residents and other members of the HoA will be laying on the Table today the 2013 Virgin Islands Festival & Fairs Annual Report.

The Opposition will not have any questions today and one Opposition member is expected to be absent from the September 25, 2014 Sitting.

A few Bills including the Legal Professional Act 2012 and the Magistrate’s Code of Procedure (Amendment Act) will have their second and third readings.

The HoA sitting will be carried live on CBN Channel 51 from 10:00 AM this morning.
