ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool will move the motion to approve Allan Parker as the Chairman of the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) when the House of Assembly (HOA) resumes this morning, February 14, 2012.

According to the order paper, section 40(4)(a) of the Interpretation Act, Cap. 136 provides that an authority or person empowered by or under an enactment to appoint or designate a person to be a member of a statutory board or to perform any other functions, may appoint or designate a person by name, and it shall be the duty of the person appointed or designated to perform the respective functions accordingly.

Parker was first appointed to the post in 2009 following the resignation of Margaret Penn in mid-February 2009.

The chairman holds an Associate Degree in Business Management from Valencia Community College in Orlando, Florida, USA. He is the general manager of Virgin Islands Motors and National Car Rental, and the owner of Dollar Rent-a- Car.

He served as Chairman of the BVI National Parks Trust from 2001-2003, a Board member at the BVI Chamber of Commerce in 1991 and as a member of the BVI Festival Committee from 1991-1994.

You didn't tell VIP that when they appointed Allan in 2009 to BVIEC Board, when they appointed Glenroy Forbes (Lawyer) to the Health Services Board, when they appointed Ronnie Lettsome to Ports Board, you want me to continue? THe chairman has nothing to do with expertise, that's what the Director is for. It's the same with the TRC. What Telecoms experience does Collin Scattliffe have? Why did VIP appoint him to chair TRC? Fiona, a Lawyer was appointed deputy, again? What experience? I'm sure the folks will do their jobs properly.
