ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The 6th Sitting of the 4th Session of the 3rd House of Assembly (HoA) of the Virgin Islands (VI) will continue on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

All bets were for Thursday or Friday of this week to be the last, but the ‘lame-duck’ Administration seems to be holding out.

The Elections (Amendment) Act, 2019, Committee of the whole House is talking longer than usual because of the looming General Election and the suspicion of the National Democratic Party 1 (NDP1), and the Election Office.

Elections Now

Many residents and the opposition parties are demanding elections now and the public is anxious to have the HoA dissolve, to pave the way for new elections.

However, now many are betting on an early March 2019, election date.

According to a senior source with NDP 1, who was not authorized to publicly discuss this subject and spoke to our newsroom on condition of anonymity said, the outgoing Premier, Dr the Hon D. Orlando Smith (AL), “has yet to discuss an election date with the Governor.”

While, there are five political parties are on the campaign trail, there is only one team with 13 Candidates—that is the Virgin Islands Party (VIP), headed by Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1).

The VIP is also coming off a high with a massive turn out to their ‘Meet and Greet’ held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

One person described the energy as “electric” and “through the roof.”

5 political parties

The VIP is to face the NDP1, headed by Honourable Myron V. Walwyn (AL)—who is expected to launch their At-Large Candidates on Saturday—along with a breaking group NDP2, named Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM), headed by fired former Health and Social Development Minister, Honourable Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) and a new group call the Reform Action Alliance (RAA) with no announced Leader.

Voters will also have the option of 'Progressives United,' headed by, Honourable Julian Fraser RA (R3).

The January 22, 2019, HoA will be carried live on CBN Radio 90.9 FM, the Caribbean superstation or follow live online on www.cbnvirginislands.com
