HLSCC Highland Spring Race Series Wraps Up

PARAQUITA BAY, Tortola, VI - After another highly successful series, the 19th HLSCC Highland Spring Race series came to a close this past weekend with many exciting finishes. Khiry Creque tied with Tarique Moses becoming the top overall males; this being Tarique’s first title and Khiry’s 4th consecutive overall victory.

Katrina Crumpler, who headed into the final race in a three way tie with Tarika Moses and Samatha John successfulyl took the win overall for the ladies. Tarika Moses and Samantha John ranked second and third overall for the females respectively.

Asia McMaster following her sister, Akeela’s footsteps became the top one mile girl along with Sam Potgieter; a second for Potgeiter as he was also a 2013 co-champ for this division.

In the cross country (team) arena, Rotary of Tortola officially claimed their tenth consecutive win and Cedar Secondary attained their third consecutive win. 

Althea Scatliffe Primary team-1 won the primary division while Cedar School Parent/Staff Team won for the Community Partners division.  Outstanding recipients for the cross country division included: Outstanding Primary: Derek Pettigrew and Alisha Hayde; Outstanding Secondary: Liam Blok & Tallulah Kinkead; Outstanding Community Partners: Alston Hanley & Anna Kinkead; Outstanding Service Club: Joash Victor and Kelsha Fortune. 

New record holders: Derek Pettigrew and Tallulah Kinkead. Pettigrew improved significantly during the series and set the new record of 12 minutes 35.94 seconds during race #3 (25thOctober, 2014); he improved on his 2013 primary boy record of  13:19.68, set 26 October, 2013. Kinkead broke the six year old secondary girl record consistently from race #2 to #4 setting a new of 13:44.13; (old record- Niayla Smith, 13:56.06, Flemming House, November, 22, 2008).

Gary Salter, representative from TICO BVI, the distributors of the series’ main sponsor Highland Spring Mineral Water as well as College President, Dr. Karl Dawson assisted in the presentation of awards that followed the final race. 

The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College extended congratulations to all champions and all participants for a job well done and their extreme appreciation to the community for their continued support.  Special appreciation was also extended to the main sponsor Highland Spring Mineral Water and additionally to all the volunteers, the HLSCC family and the media who assisted and supported the event.
