'H.L. Stoutt is the reason the cruise pier is there today' - Dr Allison C. Flax-Archer
They made the call during last evening’s March 1, 2016 airing of Speak Out BVI hosted by Douglas Wheatley on ZBVI 780 AM.
The commemoration will be on Monday March 7, 2016 at the Road Town Methodist Church with groups such as the H. Lavity Stoutt Commemorative Choir. According to the committee, there will be a musical recital this year performed by groups who were near and dear to the heart of H. Lavity Stoutt.
Following the celebrations at the Road Town Methodist Church all roads will lead to the Cappoon’s Bay cemetery during which the 'H. Lavity Stoutt bust' will be unveiled.
According to the committee, the wreath laying ceremony will be very impromptu where persons will be invited to give remarks about H. Lavity Stoutt as they knew him.
Committee member Dr Allison C. Flax-Archer said they are hoping that persons come out to celebrate the day by supporting the activities.
“We would not have had the day to celebrate had it not been for H. Lavity Stoutt,” she said. “So why not take an hour and a half out of the day to honour the visionary,” she said.
She urged that persons learn of some of the projects that H. Lavity Stoutt was instrumental in such as the new Anegada airport, and the Bregado Flax Educational Centre- Primary and Secondary divisions, the Social Security Scheme, the Jost Van Dyke Fire Station and the Community College which was renamed in H. Lavity Stoutt’s honour in 1993.
“Some people may not realise but that original cruise ship pier in 1993, that was H. Lavity Stoutt's [project] and what you see today is because of what was started by H. Lavity Stoutt in 1993,” she said.
Dr Flax also spoke of the Central Administration Building which was built in 1994 and the new prison in 1995 as projects done by H. Lavity Stoutt.

She literally put the spotlight on Mr. Stoutt as an individual. I can concur in all instances because I am also a beneficiary of his contributions to the youth and the ordinary man. Yes, he walked amongst kings and queens but maintained that common touch. Because of that, the memory of him will remain with me for my lifetime.
There are two generations or so who may have heard of the man but never had the opportunity to meet him. I encourage them to read up on his legacy to develop and appreciation of what this man from the humble village of Long Bay managed to do for this BVI without a "formal education" As we can see, education is not attained only in a formal setting.
The the persons who try to put a negative spin on any compliments paid to his contributions to this territory or try to negate who he truly was, I say God bless you because that is what he would have said. "One enemy is too many" "I am the lover boy of this territory", "Where there is no vision the people perish" Thank you old boy, Levy, the giant from the first district. Continue to rest in eternal peace and thank you for setting the foundation for our success.
about the things he screwed us with or just sit and allowed
to happen under his watch. Fair and balance is not ashamed just
