ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The history of nursing in the Virgin Islands has been documented in a text by local author and practicing Nurse Mrs Norma Benjamin.

This is according to a press release from the Government Agency dated December 13, 2018, which says the book titled “Nursing In The Virgin Islands: A Historical Perspective (1920-2017)” highlights the development of the nursing sector over the past 90 years.

The book is expected to inspire the younger members of the community to take up the mantle as the next generation of local nurses.

Mrs. Benjamin who has been employed in the Nursing Sector for over 30 years said the book will also be of benefit to persons of various professions, “I am excited about this project, and I hope that this publication can be an inspiration to the younger community and a source of information about the history of the Health Services Authority in the Virgin Islands,” she said.

The book will be available from Monday, December 17, 2018, at local stores including Island Services, Little Denmark, Pusser’s Store in Road Town, and also online at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.

Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Ms Anne A. Lennard is inviting the public to attend and support the event, “I am pleased to see the work of local authors who play such an important role in capturing different aspects of the Virgin Islands history,” she said.
