Question of NHI payouts for next HoA

Meanwhile, the question about the amounts paid out to local healthcare providers will be asked of the Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) at the next sitting of the House of Assembly.

Leader of the Opposition Hon Julian Fraser RA (R3) will want to know how much of the Twelve Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty-nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Six dollars ($12,969,306) already paid out to local private healthcare providers as of August 31st 2016, were paid to each provider by NHI.

The question was taken off the Order Paper at the last sitting of the HoA.

The Next House of Assembly Sitting is expected to be on November 21, 2016 and the answer is expected to be formally read at that time according to a senior NDP source.

The source did suggest that one of the reasons why the question was withdrawn is because there might have been a dispute between the NHI figures and the records at the Ministry of Health; however, no one was willing to go on record to confirm this.

Government should have anticipated it as they were warned. Several of them stood to benefit from it and are benefiting greatly so there is no real motivation to do anything significant to bring about change in terms of high prices for services. What you can look out for is an increase in the NHI contributions. Stay tuned.......

I thought that's what we wanted? Our people to benefit from programs in the Territory? People get care and the companies that rake in the money are local companies. So tell me what's the problem now?

The problem is that it is a scheme set up to benefit a few. The current level of contributions cannot sustain this random overcharging of NHI by the providers in the long term. Soon NHI will be forced to raise contributions in order to pay these GREEDY PROVIDERS. I usually get meds at Peebles and pay $4.50 per month. I went to one pharmacy and ask for the meds and was told $9.00. When I ask if I could use NHI card the price changed to $13.50. They are milking the system!

Paying out all this money is one thing service is another if the patient is getting good results then there is nothing to complain about. Every thing now is very expensive especially health care. People have to stop complaining about every thing and start to boy cot what the do not like. What I can prove is that you get better health care abroad and the nurses are more polite. Let us all hope for the best.

I have commented on this before.Nothing was put in place regarding maximum limits for the various healthcare services.
This is done in the U S and other places.Doctors cannot overcharge in these instances.I have Blue Cross and if my doctor charges above and beyond the normal fee for any service, they are only reimbursed up to that amount and the insurance company tell me not to pay the excess.

It would be great to know how this compares to the contributions that were made over the same period..
Without previous years to go by we cannot simply draw conclusions from these numbers.
Otherwise the above information states nothing else than something we already knew, namely who the largest healthcare providers are.

B Savage: what is your point most of these health care faculties were in business many many many years before NHI and you here making sound like these providers conspired then entered the health care business after NHI was established to defraud the people of BVI.....look how many white charter boat companies in your country racking in millions and millions years after using our "Nature's Little Scret" but that alright: all the offshore companies in your county moving millions and millions while we getting the few one cents and that's alright.....a non belonger will walk in to this territory and gets a multimillion dollar contact while your fellow county man with same knowledge is handed pocket change and that alright: examine the facts then you will establish all of these business were operating long before we had an NDP government: why don't you offer health care now you know it has big bucks in it(that's why we have VINO so all of us have a voice)......let end with this, our people spend millions of dollars to health care providers in USVI; USA and all over the world now the local small man making making money and you here piss and there is nothing you can do about it other give yourself more high blood pressure

enforce a rollback to pre NHI rates . If excessive billing continues ... govt should tax the excess at 75 % . Take that money to fund NHI which by the way will be bankrupt in about 2 years . Take a look at Obamacare in the US .... the single stupidest idea in healthcare in our lifetime . Rates through the roof ... inferior care. Watch what happens to our healthcare if we simply sit back and let it happen

Let the games begin. The raiding of the treasure chest has begun. You see if they had left the people with their private insurance we would not be having this discussion now. The private insurers would have kept the market competitive and brought down the rates. This is what happens when the NHI is the only game in town.

The sad part is this was predictable and I expect a hike in contributions soon, well maybe after the next election.

Does Therapy Works charge the government that sends seniors over to their place in Tortola Pier Park? My mother was sent over there for 'physical therapy' for three times a week to ride a stationary bike. Therapy Works has cashed in over 400, 000. The hospital sent her there. She's a senior. Is government being billed for this?

Is the hospital now referring all their physical therapy patients there now? And maybe by Tania as she has cashed in over 100,000.

This is the result of poor implementation. they should have known that the system can be easily abused. The government should now create a ceiling price for services rendered by all facilities it covers. Otherwise, it is doomed to fail.

I really don't see the what the fuss is about here. This is the government scheme and they should have foreseen that there might be some who will scheme the scheme and put something in place to monitor, report anything on towards and prosecute them. But in this reporting I have not seen any documents as per these skimmers if that is what is being suggested by these figures. I mean show us documents of how these businesses were doing when Bupa was in place for some years even to go back to souther Atlantic. By doing this we would be able to compare and contrast if there is any malfeasance going on. Eurika and B&F seems to be more trusted than Peebles for healthcare services. By this then they should be raking in lots of money, can we since adopting NHI say that their profits should be less than the previous years by this revelation without showing their profits for the years under the other insurances. Come do a bit more research and bring the whole facts not just snippets. Meanwhile have we much more confidence in Peebles to go above and beyond when it appears that some of the care providers there doesn't care about your health or feelings? Strange!
