Has Mrs Penn-Sallah flip-flopped on PVIM candidacy?
It was later confirmed on the same day by Chairman of the Party Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) when he launched the other candidates. She was also scheduled to be launched the same Friday but told the leader something important came up and she could not make it.
Two PVIM candidates have also confirmed to VINO—speaking on condition of anonymity—that they were in a room with Mrs Penn-Sallah when she allegedly “committed to running with us.”
Not so fast Penn-Sallah
However, yesterday, December 10, 2018, the former Deputy Governor Penn-Sallah issued a statement to selective media houses claiming, “reports that I am a candidate in the upcoming General Elections are premature.”
Many persons are labelling her as a ‘flip-flopper’, however, she admitted to being in touch with several political parties, “I have been approached by many groups and individuals, and have been invited by several political parties, including the PVIM to re-enter electoral politics.”
Yet, in her most recent statement, she did not say which party, if any she will run with, but instead stated that she has, “a deep commitment to the Virgin Islands and our future, particularly in these unprecedented challenging times.”
Her political history, ran 3 times won once
Mrs Penn-Sallah first ran with the VIP in 2007 and won representing the Eighth District. She ran again in 2011 and was not re-elected, being defeated by now Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8).
In her third bid for elective office, she ran as an Independent in 2015 and lost. The Queen’s Counsel came in 8th out of 16 candidates, as only the top-four persons who received votes are elected in the at-large system. She had a mere 1,837 votes.
The fourth place went to Hon Archibald C. Christian (AL) who had 4,659 votes.
