ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) was the first to report on Friday, December 7, 2018, that former Attorney General and Deputy Premier under the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government—from 2007 to 2011—R. Dancia Penn-Sallah QC, had committed to running with the National Democratic Party 2 (NDP 2), now called the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM).

It was later confirmed on the same day by Chairman of the Party Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) when he launched the other candidates. She was also scheduled to be launched the same Friday but told the leader something important came up and she could not make it.

Two PVIM candidates have also confirmed to VINO—speaking on condition of anonymity—that they were in a room with Mrs Penn-Sallah when she allegedly “committed to running with us.”

Not so fast Penn-Sallah

However, yesterday, December 10, 2018, the former Deputy Governor Penn-Sallah issued a statement to selective media houses claiming, “reports that I am a candidate in the upcoming General Elections are premature.”

Many persons are labelling her as a ‘flip-flopper’, however, she admitted to being in touch with several political parties, “I have been approached by many groups and individuals, and have been invited by several political parties, including the PVIM to re-enter electoral politics.”

Yet, in her most recent statement, she did not say which party, if any she will run with, but instead stated that she has, “a deep commitment to the Virgin Islands and our future, particularly in these unprecedented challenging times.”

Her political history, ran 3 times won once

Mrs Penn-Sallah first ran with the VIP in 2007 and won representing the Eighth District. She ran again in 2011 and was not re-elected, being defeated by now Minister for Health and Social Development Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8).

In her third bid for elective office, she ran as an Independent in 2015 and lost. The Queen’s Counsel came in 8th out of 16 candidates, as only the top-four persons who received votes are elected in the at-large system. She had a mere 1,837 votes.

The fourth place went to Hon Archibald C. Christian (AL) who had 4,659 votes.

It shows that even her can't be trusted. I can't understand why PVIM would announce she would join them if she didn't have some kind of talk with them.

The lady is in control of her own destiny and she will call her own shots as she feel fit. So because she does not jump to anybody's bell all of you have problems with her. In my view, she is the only possible candidate who can diplomatically, honestly and professionally steer the BVI out of this mess. She will not mishandle funds and no one will question her integrity or push for power. Everyone has what they had to say about her one term in office. Who is perfect. At the time she was Deputy Premier and Member for the 8th she did what she could with what she had under the leadership she was under. She is not going to get into any power ring with nobody and nobody except the man upstairs will push her to say anything she has not thought out properly. I got you on this

I quite agree with you. I like her because she has principles, but why does she attend the meetings. Is she a spy (:-)

Interesting! I am in the area daily and see her heading to the headquarters every meeting.
