ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Running in Heat 2 of the women’s 60m at the World Indoor Championships this morning, March 8, 2014, in Sopot, Poland, Tahesia Harrigan-Scott finished second behind Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce to reach the semi-finals.

Her time of 7.20 seconds placed her as the 12th fastest qualifier ahead of Veronica Campbell Brown in the seedings which also includes Michelle Lee Ahye from Trinidad and of course the double 2013 IAAF World Championships gold medalist and 2013 World Athlete of the Year Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

The Jamaican pocket rocket won her heat in the second fastest time of the morning, 7.12, despite the rather sedentary reaction time of 0.203 seconds.

With the relatively relaxed qualification conditions of the first three in each heat and six non-automatic qualifiers going through to Sunday’s semi-finals, nobody with medal ambitions fell by the wayside at this stage.

The other heat winners were Great Britain’s Asha Philip, Germany’s 2010 European 100m champion Verena Sailer, Nigeria’s Gloria Asumnu and the USA’s Tianna Bartoletta; Sailer and Bartoletta were only fractionally slower than the leading pair, both women clocking 7.13 in winning their races.

Tahesia Harrigan-Scott climbed the podium to collect her bronze medal during the 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Valencia, Spain, with a population of under 30,000 inhabitants, the Virgin Islands became the smallest of the 211 IAAF members, whose athlete had a podium finish in any of the World Championships Series events.

She was the only 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships finalist who also made the championships final in 2010 where she finished seventh in 7.17 seconds, a time she matched on Saturday in Berlin, Germany, in her tune up for this year’s event that runs through to Sunday.
