ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Popular businessman and basketball coach, Terry D. Smith was reported to have been shot at while in his sanitation truck this evening June 25, 2016. It remains unclear if the gunmen were attempting to kill Mr Smith, as information is sketchy and police are still investigating.

Our newsroom has been informed by its Team of Reporters that the incident took place in the Joe’s Hill area. The sanitation truck was reportedly descending the hill on the main island of Tortola when it was shot at some time after 8:30pm.

Mr Smith, also known as ‘Big Shit’, almost lost his life when he was shot back in April 2015, while riding a scooter along Flemming Street, in Road Town, the capital city. He was shot several times in that incident and had to run into RiteWay Food Markets for cover.

“Police are investigating a report that a garbage truck was shot at in Harrigan’s Estate area,” Police Information Officer Diane Drayton told Virgin Islands News Online.

Meanwhile, there are unconfirmed reports of gunshots heard in Road Town around 11:00 PM tonight June 25, 2016 close to a local bank. Our newsroom is carrying out its own investigation on this matter, as the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force seems to be tightlipped or not aware of this second matter.

So what is it? Money, drugs, a woman, your rep, street cred - WHAT?

What is soooo terribly important to you that it is worth a man's life? Dead is a "forever" condition and so is being a MURDERER. That never goes away. Is that what you want your parents and family to think of you and have to live with for the rest of their lives?

Do you have children or want to have children? I am pretty certain that they will find it difficult to love or have any respect a whatsoever for a man labelled "MURDERER".

You think you tough, but is it really worth throwing your life away? Think about it seriously. This was your SECOND attempt and you failed again. You apparently aren't all that bright and that means you will probably be caught because ( no doubt) you have made mistakes. The police WILL catch you or a "friend" will rat you out.

Stop while you still have that option. Otherwise, get ready to be bored, loney, angry, frightened and frustrated for a very, very long time while you waste away in prison. Your choice.

Again! The (British) Virgin Islands are getting too, too ‘hot’ in more way than one. I’m really starting to feel like a ‘sitting fowl’ in this place for real, just waiting for the slaughter, in this cowboy town. Come on Now! I wonder what our elected officials have to say about all of these frequently becoming occurrences? Why are they so silent about this obvious dysfunction that is now plaguing our way of life? I am really, really feeling more uneasy in this place. Is this the progress they were campaigning about when we were duped into voting for them?

They pass gun laws but it is for the law abiding citizen and not the criminals .Everything gone to hell in the BVI starting with the Education Department which suppose to be the starting point look how bald head fool the parent with his shit and when he finish fooling them he polish it off but ball head time is sure longer than twine and you will soon be expose what ever do in darkness always come to light. Three strike and you are out, maybe that's what the shooter (s) are doing, intimidating him or sending a message for him to do the right thing. Because from that first incident, the guy haven't done anything to change his ways. Still arrogant and display such lawless attitude, so lets see if this incident bring about any changes.

The truth is, our country is a reflection of it's leadership. The one thing we got, our tourism product is being taken way from us. Watch our behavior towards each other. If we can't live good with ourselves how are we going to deal with visitors.
If Goverment officials fighting internally how are we going to keep it together in society. We need to stop letting politics divide for in the next few years we will be slave to the same system nuff of them done sell out to. People of this country we got to make a stand. If we make a stand our generation will be extinct.

I must thank VINO for keeping the community up to date with social issues that are affecting all of us because nothing is heard from the political side or the law enforcement side....I purposely listened to the last sitting of the house of assembly and not 1 word from the members of the house about the growing gun crimes in this place....I never thought I would have lived to see the day when the BVI went from a tranquil and peaceful village to a war zone and I think that it will get worst before it gets better

His Excellency Governor John Duncan, it is high time that you ensure that the cabinet provide money for the police force to purchase more CCTV camera and place them throught Tortola and that will enable the perpetrators of these crimes to be caught on the cameras. Tough times requires tough measures.

@ Charlie Rose: I think the United Kingdom should be the one providing the funding for police and the CCTV cameras: there is also urgent need for more coastal patrols: my question(who really cares about our homeland security)...

People, let us get on our knees and pray for our country and the world. The Word says in the last days men's heart would be cold. No need to blame the NDP Government for these things you see happening. Just like the signs are there that God is coming soon that we can see it, Satan and his workers see it too and is attacking the World, not only the BVI, to get souls. We are burying another young man soon and another was threatened with gun fire and we blaming everybody but those to blame, PARENTS and the DEVIL. Let us pray for our young people and our country Iinstea of blogging blasphemy.
