ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The highlight of a cold and blustery night at the 2nd BVI Athletic Association’s Development Meet on Friday January 13, 2017, at the A.O. Shirley Ground was the new National Record set by DJimon Gumbs.

Gumbs overcame the conditions to throw the Discuss a massive 55.51 metres to not only set the new National Record, but also qualify for a whole slew of future top level Competitions including the 10th World Youth Championships, scheduled for July 5th – 12th, 2017 in Nairobi and the Carifta Games, to be hosted by the Curacao Athletics Association.

“First of all I need to thank God for granting me this opportunity,” commented Gumbs. “It was a little bit gusty and really cold, but I was able to deal with the conditions and am very pleased with my performance tonight.”

Gumbs is the first to qualify for the World Youths, but hopes many more of his fellow athletes will soon be reaching qualifying standards

“People like my brother, for Carifta, for Worlds, Joshua Hill, Rakeel Jack, I just want everyone to make a National Team.”

Other results from the Development Meet will be published when available.
