The Vincy’s loss means that they are now tied on points with Grenada, Vikings and Cavaliers with 6 points each and only four weeks left for the Super Six stage before the top two teams will face off in the May 25, 2014 finals.

How Grenada Did It

Vincy won the toss, elected to bat first and posted 189 for 8 from their 20 overs, a paltry score considering previous winning totals set at the Greenland Recreation Ground. Grenada responded with 192 for 6, winning the game in the penultimate over to set off wild celebrations.

The defending champions found themselves in trouble early when Kenrick Leslie, 16 runs, was beaten for pace and bowled by Irvin Lewis with the score on 22. Vincy then lost the experienced campaigner, Maxford Pipe, via a run out with the score still on 22.

Austin McDowell, who has a century under his belt, helped to revive the Vincy inning with a 59-run partnership with Sylvester Mitchell. However, both were bowled by Derol Redhead. McDowell’s 36 runs (2 fours and 3 sixes) topped all scores for Vincy while Mitchell made 35 runs, which included 4 fours and 2 sixes.

In the ensuing overs, Grenada continued to dominate with the ball. Rodney Marryshow accounted for Keelan Robin, who started to show promise with 16 runs and the dangerous Montgomery Butler for just 2 runs.

Lewis, Marryshow and Redhead picked up 2 wickets each for Grenada.

In reply, Grenada started patiently despite losing their opening pair of Raymond Charles and Jason Thomas very early. Grenada’s refused to fold despite the return of pacer Brent Defreitas, who announced before tying the knot about two weeks ago that he was planning to quit the game.

Marryshow steadied the Grenada run chase with a defiant 58 from 33 balls, which saw 4 fours and 4 sixes. Pipe pulled the match away from Grenada with three quick wickets in two overs, including the heavy-hitting Redhead for 1 run.

Grenada’s Dave Johnson who left the field briefly returned to end on 31 runs, which saw 4 sixes and 1 four. In the end, Kitason Francis and Kelly Andrew saw Grenada home in the 19th over.

Pipe finished with 3 for 16 from 3 overs and Leslie, 2 for 55 from 3 overs.

Cavaliers Stay Alive

Four-time champion, Cavaliers picked apart Jamrock to win convincingly by 164 runs.

Jamrock won the toss and sent Cavaliers to bat. Cavaliers made 271 all out and then restricted Jamrock to 107 all out from 16 overs.

Cavaliers were led by Kwesi Sinclair who smashed 14 sixes and 5 fours during his knock of 118 runs. Cavaliers’ captain, Jagnarine ‘Sugar’ Persaud added 33 runs and Vishal Bharrat 28 runs.

Otis Chin led the Jamrock attack with 3 for 21 from 2 overs. Fitzroy Daley bowled 2 for 47 from 4 overs.

In reply, Jamrock was 2 for 23 and 99 for 8 before falling way short of the target. Tim Samuel made 34 runs and Rudolph Davis added 29 to lead the Jamrock batting attack.

Roshan Husman finished with 2 for 12 from 2 overs and Julian Sinclair had 2 for 14 from 3 overs. Bharrat, Julian Sinclair, Dorian Auguiste and Persuad each picked up a wicket each.

On Sunday, April 27, 2014 the youth game will be played at 10:00 am while at 2:00 pm the Vikings will play against the Cavaliers.
