ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – “It is disgraceful to know that it has taken the House [of Assembly] so long to in fact debate the works of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). It shows irresponsibility and it shows lack of proper leadership,” said Edmund G. Maduro.

Speaking on his EGM radio show aired last Thursday July 10, 2014 on ZROD 103.7 FM, Maduro chided the Government for not treating the PAC report with the importance it warrants, given the seriousness of the findings contained therein with regards to the Cruise Pier Development Project.

The radio commentator said that during his upcoming shows he will be going through each and every section of the PAC final report so that the public gains a greater understanding of the issue.

“The Public Accounts Committee is put in place to examine Government’s operations and it will in fact report to the House of Assembly,” he said.

“This is an important constitutional measure that is being played with like a cat playing with a mouse,” said Maduro. “It is a very important document and I am so sick as a person to see the House is dealing with the Public Accounts Committee report on the cruise ship dock so irresponsibly,” he said.

The PAC in its report made allegations of the breaking of laws of the Virgin Islands in which it stated on page 31, 1 in the summary that “the government spent two years and countless resources engaging processes that were contrary to Public Financial Management Regulations, in contravention of the BVI Ports Authority Act, non-transparent and untenable.”

The PAC in its report also blasted the Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool for what it described as his “failure to confer with the Authority on the Cruise Ship Port Project”…as a result this “led to a costly redesign for the Government and the Authority in terms of time and resources.”

How does Edmund feel about the current revisions made to the Education system? What does edmund think about the new Hospital being commissioned and with the new HIMA Health services being offered at Peebles? What does Edmund think about the current works going on Territory-wide to address sewage/water issues facing the Territory? What does Edmund think about the BVIEC getting phase 5 underway to finally address our electricity concerns? What does Edmund think about the current road works being undertaken? What does Edmund think about the Government's new Housing plan for first time home owners? What does Edmund think about these things? Or does Edmund only talk about negative stuff to get people riled up? Edmund contests elections Territory-wide over and over again and out of a 12,000 votes he gets 5. Nuff said! NEXT!

Yea, right. Again, why we never hear him speak about these things? 'starting' something means nothing.

All that are mentioned above are just smoke screens. You can rest assure that with all those venture someone is benefitting handsomely. But guess what all those you mentioned cannot take away from the fact that the cruise pier project is riddled with corruption

what does any of the above have to do with the issue at hand? the blatant ignorance of the law? Unless all ignored laws to move forward with particular favoured vendors or pay-offs. Is that what you want? The point of looking at the PAC is to hold the government accountable and law-abiding. Two wrongs don't make a right and the end does not justified how it was done. I for one, am grateful that Mr. Maduro is reading the document to the public. It is not necessarily readily available and sometimes hard to read and is time-consuming. That is what government is banking on. That no one will take the time to read it.

Kudos to Mr. Maduro for educating the public by reading the document.
