DUFFS BOTTOM, Tortola, VI - Amidst concerns from Opposition Leader Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2) that the Virgin Islands may become 'Sodom and Gomorrah', through the passage of several controversial legislation, Premier Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has given the assurance that his administration will only push what was in its legislative agenda and nothing else.

Speaking at the June 26, 2020, House of Assembly sitting, both Hons Penn and Turnbull had raised concerns about the passage of the gambling legislation, pointing to alcohol and marijuana as two other controversial areas of concerns.

Opposition concerns raised in HoA

"I hear the good minister [Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9)] when he was speaking... he said what a June to remember, he say we pass the gambling, we regularising the rum and the marijuana coming next, I thought he was joking," Hon Penn told the House of Assembly during the debates of the Cannabis Licensing Act, 2020, ahead of its eventual passage on June 30, 2020.

The Opposition Leader said he was concerned about what would come next, "I hope ain't the prostitution coming next either... I don't want us to become like the place that they talk about in the Bible."

Opposition Member, Hon Melvin M. Turnbull (R2), had also told the HoA that he too was afraid about what legislation the government would bring forward to the House.

“Last week was gambling, this week is weed... week before was something else, maybe the closet coming, I don’t know,” he said on June 26, 2020.

Well, I hope this is not a situation of the blond leading the blind. Brothers and Sisters why are we getting side track. Prostitution been legal(we have several strip clubs), gambling been legal(people in high and low places are daily buying ticket), homosexuality been legal(UK control us because we are still a dependent territory,,plus we accept cruise vessels with same sex into our territory).
So let him that have wisdom hear what the SPIRIT says.

@ one thing, you are correct. He is diffinately calling them out. They did nothing but collect a paycheck, take government land and give contracts to their extended families and that's just the tip of the rotten ideology. It's a good thing the are out.

Sex trafficking IS already big in the BVI.
Just like people trafficking, gun trafficking and - or so I have heard - drug trafficking.
BVIslanders pretend to be all kinds of righteous about these things, but IRL we are very, very, very tolerant when there's money involved.

These people like they visit Vegas alot. Marijuana, gambling, the other things are only a matter of time. Remember, Vegas is not the first place you would think of when looking for somewhere to raise a family and children. These people changing the whole dynamic of the country through their flawed laws and in the end, the children and family households will suffer worse than what they suffering now. Prostitution not legal? So why the people in power like to act like one and give away everything for money. You tell me.

Clearly we all prefer our prostitution to be open and visible while still remaining illegal.

Prostitution is happening anyway and you aren't going to stop it. So why not make it taxable? Why not have them pay NHI and SS like everyone else... Just so you can pretend it doesn't happen? Nobody is being fooled.

Yes indeed. It's great to have the company of these lovely Jamaican, Guyanese, and Dominican "entertainers". Let them work. You know most of you guys (and many ladies) love it too. Let's just make it legal, taxed, and medically checked. I'm all with you on the same-sex stuff but good luck in keeping those sexy entertainers from licking around on each other when staying in a house full of them walking around nude (their work clothes). It's happening. Let's just do it right.
