Governor’s boat wins 4 bullets at Foxy’s Wooden Boat Regatta
Governor Duncan sailed “Intrepid” to 1st place in the Island Sloop class, winning a perfect four out of four races.
Using the weekend as a chance to hone his skills ahead of the annual August Island Sloop shoot-out against Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith, the Governor took full advantage of the winds, which stayed steady at 14 to 16 knots over the weekend and making for close exiting sailing.
With the number of boats decreasing each year, the organisers- The Loyal West End Yacht Club- opened up the event to modern fiberglass boats and included the event in the Goslings Rum Series. It is a class “F” event as in “FUN”.
The Race Captain Dave Lake said, “The racing went well with no collisions or serious breakages.”
One boat, “Tinglar”, sailed from Puerto Rico to take part in the event and on Sunday afternoon, May 24, 2015 a young lady did an amazing gymnastics display high in Blue Peters rigging.
The overall winners were.
“Intrepid” Island sloops
“Blue Peter” Wooden Boats.
“Camelot” Classic Plastic.
“Tinglar” Racing class.
