Gov Duncan tells businesses to boycott media outlets promoting hate
“BVI’s economic success is based on our immigration, both financial services and even the short-term immigration we have in tourism,” the UK appointed Governor Duncan stated.
The Governor was giving brief remarks at the Centennial Anniversary Foundation Dinner for Rotary Clubs of the Virgin Islands at The Moorings, Wickhams Cay on the island of Tortola on Saturday November 12, 2016.
The dinner was part of a week of activities as the Rotary families of the Virgin Islands hosted District Governor Haresh L. Ramchandani.
According to Governor Duncan, while giving brief remarks at the dinner event, over the past weeks countries have been facing what is likely to be one of the biggest threats to societies of today. “It’s not nuclear war, it’s not a financial crash, its immigration and our reaction to immigration and you have seen that over the past six months being promoted by a number of people at both political and commercial ends.”
“I am an immigrant, I have been a stranger in a strange land since I was six years old roaming the world so I know what it means to be an immigrant,” he noted as he said he tends to get rather passionate about it.
Immigration essential
The Governor noted that history would attest to the fact that immigration is essential. “It was essential to the United Kingdom, United Kingdom was a nation of immigrants, US is a nation of immigrants and the BVI is a nation of immigrants. We are successful because we welcome immigrants…”
Governor Duncan challenged immigrants not to go into any country and try to set up their own culture in that society and keep it all closed but rather, open it up to others.
Touching on what he described as a ‘few serious things’ Governor Duncan noted that the Virgin Islands is a microcosm of any developed society having navigated many social changes, adding to the many success of the society.
“Rotary has played a crucial role in the success of this community. It has been that centre of the move to keep our various communities together. It is the bridge between our communities and it is a visual expression, a corporate social responsibility, helping those less fortunate and civil society.”
The Governor, who has faced criticisms for refusing to establish a Commission of Inquiry into the Ports Development Project despite popular calls for one and was recently exposed by this news site for speaking on both sides of his mouth regarding the lack of transparency and accountability of the National Democratic Party (NDP) government, also highlighted that the Lego company in Britian decided to stop advertising in the Daily Mail in response to a campaign called ‘Stop funding the Hate’.
He noted that free speech is an important part of democracy as it is in our constitution and it is absolutely something that should be allowed. “However, being associated with media outlets that publish hate is something every businessman and woman should think about,” said Governor Duncan.

agreed. But there is also danger of censoring public opinion which is constructive to any intellectual exchange. The fine line in a democracy is hearing both sides for a balanced discussion. I hope censorship is not the case...
Smart way to fill the BVI with UK workers and call them immigrants...Another Trump in sheep clothing?
Many of us read this as another attempt to silent and censor the local media and that we WOULD NEVER, NEVER tolerated or accepted.
Not all of we are good, nor bad. Not all immigrants are good, nor bad. Many (both our own and immigrants) contribute to our society positively, while others just take and have a negative impact on all of us.
I think Donald Trump is a horrible human being and will be a horrible leader. If we allow Trump like negativity into our hearts and our society, we will become no better than he. We are already heading in that direction with open xenophobia displayed on a daily basis, our children cannot help but be affected by it.
THIS is the product of an all-too-long political campaign filled with hateful racist remarks: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3930596/Trump-deport-Woman-launches-racist-abuse-Iranian-born-citizen-train-calling-Middle-Eastern-terrorist-evil-little-pig-shocking-viral-video.html
If we keep going in the direction we are going, it won't be long until this is us!
Trump has made promises he can't possibly keep. However, he actually has Jewish roots and he has already pledged his support for Israel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQgDgMGuDI0. So basically he is the same globalist type as Hilarry Clinton, Obama, Bush, Bill Clinton etc. Nothing will change except for the racists getting a sobering dose of reality.
that operate here, all sorts of rubbish to weed them out in the name of some treaty the BVI signed internatioinally -
while at the same time foreign billioinaires including from the US can just waltz in here and buy and do what they
want? I do not understand the Governor. The BVI FSC allows all kinds of fascist crap to be dumped on the average
person moved here - but nothing happens to those who are buying up the Caribbean and its businesses like there is
no tomorrow. FSC just exonerated Scotiabank recently. If I knew the BVI was going nazi - I wouldn't have invested
my time and money here. So you will tell me to leave? So give me back my money.
And what was the Brexit vote about again?
Love or hate?
You answer that question and after that tell us about the Kingdom's idea of love and hate, not yours!
Inquiring minds want to know!!!
So happy to see readers were not fooled with the wicked racist motives to censor press freedom..we not drinking the coolaid this time
