Gold Rings & new Jr League ages for 2017 Hon Fraser B/Ball League

DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- Teams in the 5th Annual Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed National Basketball League will be literally going for gold, gold rings that is.

The League has announced that in celebration of its 5th year anniversary, the 2017 Championship team will be awarded gold rings. This is according to Chairwoman of the League Committee, Mrs Kharid T. Fraser.

She said in a press release issued April 25, 2017 that, “it was thought that as the League reached this milestone we had to do something different, and we thought that gold rings will be appropriate to show our appreciation to the players, coaches and managers for their hard work, commitment and dedication to the League.”

It is not clear at this time if Digicel BVI will be sponsoring the rings as they have done for the past three years, and Mrs Fraser told this news site she was not at liberty to disclose who the sponsor will be.

Nevertheless, the announcement is sure to add further excitement and intense competition among teams in this year's league. 

Mrs Fraser promised; however, that in the coming weeks a date will be made public on the schedule of the 2017 season, which will begin in August.

New Jr League ages

Meanwhile, Mrs Fraser added that the By-Laws that govern the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League were amendment by the League Committee and approved by the Directors to make provision for two different age groups for the Junior League.

Effective in the 2017 season there will be a 9 to 12 and 13 to 16 age group. The Junior League coordinator is basketball superstar Mr Jason A. Edwin.

Mrs Fraser also thanked the many sponsors who have supported the Hon Julian Fraser Save the Seed Basketball League over the past four years.

The League was founded in 2013 by Hon Julian Fraser RA, the Third District Representative and Bishop John I. Cline of the Save the Seed Energy Centre and New Life Baptist Church.

The objectives of the Basketball League include to provide wholesome basketball competitive games in a family environment while promoting discipline and respect for each player, fans, the League Committee, the game, God and country.
