ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Adding to his relatively tainted police record, Glenville Callwood was remanded to prison on September 1, 2016 after being found guilty of a 2014 incident in which he threatened to kill an off duty police officer in the presence of the man’s wife and baby.

On September 1, 2016 when he appeared in the Magistrates Court before Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards, a guilty verdict was handed down on him for three offences – being armed with an offensive weapon, to wit a knife, common assault and making use of threatening language to a police officer- as occasioned on May 16, 2014.

Having heard the verdict, Callwood was given the opportunity to say something and what he had to say was certainly nothing close to what Ms Richards was interested in hearing. He begged for leniency claiming that he is now a changed person trying to lead a positive life.

The Senior Magistrate told him that she would not have wanted to be in the shoe of the police officer’s wife, and that it was obvious she has to send a strong message to any other who might be entertaining the thought of committing such a crime against a peace officer, be they in or out of uniform.

The crime

Callwood’s dastardly act took place while the police officer, his wife and baby were in the vicinity of a bank in Road Town. The court had heard that on the day in question the police officer parked his vehicle at the bank and while proceeding to the ATM machine, leaving his wife and child in the car, the defendant pounced.

Callwood was brandishing a knife which he pointed at close range to the police officer. In a move to secure himself, the officer returned to his vehicle as the accused was cursing him and threatening to kill him.

But Callwood proceeded to follow the law man to the car and continued to threaten him. While at the vehicle, the defendant turned the knife to the policeman’s wife who was in the car with their four-month old baby, ordering her tell her husband to, “Talk to your man, he almost get kill last night.”

The woman was at the time pleading with Callwood to stop threatening her husband.

It was at that moment the police officer drove off and subsequently filed a report at the Road Town Police Station. Following investigations, Callwood was arrested, charged and placed before the court.

While now taking up residence at Her Majesty’s Prison, Balsam Ghut, he will know how much longer he will be there come October 5, 2016 as Senior Magistrate Richards made it clear she is leaning towards a custodial sentence.

Young man filled with anger and frustrated For reason of course. Many of our young man are being sent off to jail that can be avoided. When people chose to get involved in any way to help (people always say their looking 15min of fame) yet everyone complIne no one doing anything to help the youths. There was an article here on VINO where I saw Gumption trying to make a step and help the youths yet he's so discouraged due to lack of support. I'm sure if the article was something bad everyone would have been down his throat. We have a problem here in the Virgin Islands. We support and endorse the wrong things and take what's important for granted. This young man who Threating the officer must have been push to his limit. I'm sure he's a good person. Life have its ways of turning around. Shame what this beautiful island is going.

Dr. Michael Turnbull, Dr. Sylvia Simmons, or other psychologists in our country, please find some way to help these young man. It is clearly obvious that some of these young man has deep psychological issues.

All our society does is look-down on these vibrant young men and write them off as misfits.

We need to change our MINDSET about mental illnesses that are escalating in our society, in particular psychological issues that are affecting some of our young men in the community. Please Help Them. Anyone can see that some of these young men are crying out for Help.

Please, Our Christian and Godly Community, Please, reach out to some of these young men and provide some level of restoration.

To why? The proper grammar is these young men. However, your point is duly warranted. Quite a bit of these young men need psychological therapy and or incarceration with therapy included. Fundamentals are so required in the early stages of educational development in our territory.

This is really a sad situation for the youths to be in. But this is clearly the of lack of a father roll. If fathers would give their children a firm foundation from the time they were born all of this could have been avoided. Super Cop was too busy trying to fix others and always have a correction fluid for others and did not take heed to his own. Now the children is not stable. All this is Super Cop lack of proper up bringing of his children.
