ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- While the world is still trying to come to terms with the results of the November 8, 2016 US Presidential Election that saw Billionaire Donald J. Trump emerging as President-elect, a local talk show host is advocating for him to be given a chance, adding that he believes that he will do a good job.

Mr Trump shattered expectations with an election night victory that revealed deep anti-establishment anger among American voters and set the world on a journey into the political unknown.

The Republican nominee has achieved one of the most improbable political victories in modern US history, despite a series of controversies that would easily have destroyed other candidacies, extreme policies that have drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle, a record of racist and sexist behaviour, and a lack of conventional political experience.

Meanwhile, host of the Speak out BVI show on ZBVI 780 AM Doug Wheatley, using his 60-minute weekly programme on Tuesday November 15, 2016 said while many may be “unhappy campers” Trump making it to the top says a lot.

“What I think needs to be done is Mr Trump be given an opportunity to plan his work, plan his programmes, along with persons who work so faithfully with him. I know there are many persons throughout the world unhappy, there are many persons in the Virgin Islands who are unhappy, but I would say this to you, what God doesn’t want the angels are going to have, the fact that he has come through all the difficulties and has become the President of the US says something and I think all of us ought to give him a chance and to see what he will do,” Mr Wheatley said.

He added, “And my own personal belief is that he will do a good job.”

Meantime, Wheatley while describing the election as “monumental” and one that will change the face and political landscape of the US, pointed out that there are lessons to be learned by the territory to do a better job when the time comes for the general election.

The Talk show host touched on the roles of the candidates, the party organisation, and the media. According to him, the voice of the people is the voice of God, the people have the power to elect or not elect representatives to serve them.

the turmoil in picking a cabinet, installing one of the biggest white supremacist bigots as a trusted advisor, wanting top security clearance (WORLD secrets) for his children while they run their companies is not a good start. They are all touting their products and properties using a website PAID FOR BY TAX PAYERS. This is not appropriate and is a conflict of interest. They want to build hotels in Moscow and China. Trump has HUGE debt with German and Chinese banks to the tune of $2 BILLION and now he is in charge of the banking industry which could benefit him. It is all too messy, divisive. And hate crime is up with bullying and violence and the president-elect is allowing it to happen, even making it mainstream and fashionable. If he was a leader, wouldn't you think he would try and lead by pulling the country together instead of tweeting man-child behavior? I fear for the world.

The hate crimes are mainly being done by the spoiled loosers of Clinton and Obama supporters, they need to calm their childlike supporters who are throwing a temper tantrums like two year olds cause they lost a fair election. Trump will do just fine and the world will benefit from it.

Left wing bigots only like democracy when their evil policies win the day. Whilst claiming they are democratic, they actually have zero tolerance for any view other than their own, and will resort to violence when they do not get thier own way.

Hi-liar-y is a crooked as they come.

It is democracy - suck it up and enjoy.

protests are protected by the constitution. But inciting people to intimidate, bully, bad-mouth is not. The US is terrified of this neo-nazi who is considering crooks for his cabinet, people who have been before ethics committees or fired from their hedge-fund wall street jobs. Many of those people protesting are bernie sanders people. If there was ANY semblance of constitutional integrity in the prez-elect, protests wouldn't be happening. Trump is not following age old and tried systems of transition let alone understand what the larger issues are.
Immigrants are terrified, women are terrified, muslims are terrified. These are NOT spoiled losers. Hate crimes are exploding in the US because Trump's behavior gave them permission to come out of the shadows. This is not OK.

News Flash! this is ALL our lives. Nothing blind about it.
anyone but Trump. He is a petulant child. At least other candidates know or read the constitution. I accept a new election, but what is happening/ will happen is by all accounts (including republicans on the hill) a worrisome event. They are in charge yes, but they are worried to see what unfolds. Democracy doesn't allow harassment of one people over another, or violation of civil rights, throwing 11 mil immigrants out, etc. Democrats had "shit to offer" yet Obama saved the car industry, stabilized the economy left over from wall-street driven crash etc. Democracy is giving everyone a voice respectfully. concentrate on BVI, conflicts of interest, secret deals, investment club, disappearing monies, egos, incivility and inexperience, then you will see what I mean. Then again, you may see it as business as usual without involvement or concern. But US has bigger influence than BVI.

I agree with Doug..........the Virgin Islands have had some good years with republican presidents in the White House. He wants to make the U.S. great again by reducing their huge deficit and bringing manufacturing back from China and Korea. He is going to reduce the corporate tax from 35% to 15%..........if the U.S. is healthy then the Virgin Islands will prosper.

He made so many promises that he did not fulfill. I am black and I was never for Obama. Chicago his hometown is crime ridden. What have he done for Chicago. He already purchase a house in Washington to live in when he leaves office. I am so happy that this is the end of his term. Can't wait for him to leave office.

Today hard work is consider as Smart work. The art of turning hard work in smart work.. So though some father gave him a great start. He didn't fall asleep he turn himself into a billionaire.. Yes, Wendy, you are the smartest of the bloggers. Where in the History of the United States and the World, the US President who is supposed to be the leader of the free world, finds himself lacking in foreign policy. If the US wants to save its nation, at some time they must remove the charade. What speeches will be give at the UN? "yeah, yeah, we making America bigly great again." Who ever see Mr. Trump sitting down over papers and making decisions that affect the world? The man got to call Ivanka and Donald to help him out. This parading truly will stop. He is not controlled and he will breach the security practices all the time. Let the wild man Trump go and build his dynasty. Time will tell. Trump can't sit still for one day, much less one year, or two years.
Plus he going to be 'grabbing' some new aids working at White House. Trouble in America's camp. Wendy, we are watching the show with Busta and Popcorn.

What I am very disturbed with is the rush for many to normalize Trump. Trump did not come to power in a normal conventional way but by stoking the flames of racial, ethnic, and sexist division. Sure he did have some populist messages that I can understand why some would gravitate to him eg. bring back jobs, drain the swamp, protect the borders. Sure he is the winner based on the electoral college and we must give him a chance but I am yet to hear him apologize for his divisive rhetoric during the election.

Trump is a brilliant marketer and I give him that but I am not sure about his management. Look at how he manipulated the media for free spots for his campaign in the primaries and then turned against them when they realized they were taken advantage and that he was a threat and started to do some digging in his past. His use of social media eg. twitter/fb . Imagine this man spent half the money Hilary spent and won the election.

Some BVI Islanders who support him may be doing so because they endorse his message of nationalism and protectionism which is natural in every country to have people who support that philosophy. America was built on the back of immigrants, BVI too, we need to embrace not exclude them and see how we can work together to build a great nation. I like his message of drain the swamp in the case of term limits for senators although that will need the support of the same senators who he wants to curtail their term of their periods. Good luck with that. However all his messages were distorted by his attacks on Mexicans, Muslims, his condescending talk about blacks, sexism which unfortunately I will never support. Most of all his temperament is a major concern as based on his reactions to trivial matters during the campaign and even now which makes me very concerned with how he will be able to deal with rogue world leaders like Putin, Kim Jong Un, Iran, China etc. Look at who he is surrounding himself with : Guiliani, Gingrich, Bannon?

Serious days lie ahead for America and the World.

God puts people in power. The real reason Trump won the election was the Christian vote and prayer and fasting. Hillary's stand on partial birth abortion is an abomination and giving her the opportunity to fill Supreme Court vacancies with liberal judges brought out the Christian vote to stop her. No, Trump doesn't claim to be a saint but Mike Pence is a strong Christian along with other advisors like Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee. Also Trump will be a true supporter of Israel unlike current administration. The government budget is a big waste of money and Trump will trim it down and make people accountable. We should pray and pray some more that God would draw Trump closer to Him and raise up BOLD Christian leaders all over the world. AMEN
