Georges: Frequent complaints made against Trade & Labour Depts in 2011
This was disclosed by Complaints Commissioner, Elton Georges, in an interview with Virgin Islands News Online. Mr. Georges also revealed that an investigation into the operations of the Trade License Department is underway.
“We are in the middle of an investigation, which will be completed by February next year,” he added.
Touching on the copious amount of complaints levied against the Labour Department for the perceived inaction of handling complaints from employees against their employers, Georges stated that the relevant authorities have been notified. “The Labour Commissioner is responsible for tackling such matter and if he or she can’t handle it, it has to be advanced to the subject Minister within 30 days of the complaint being reported,” Georges explained.
He further stated that mandatory reports have been sent to the Governor, Cabinet, the subject Minister, Dr. Kedrick Pickering and the Labour Commissioner.
And while he could not give a breakdown of the number of complaints as yet the Commissioner said a more detailed report will be made available to the public next year.
