CARROT BAY, Tortola, VI- The old saying “who don’t hear, will feel” can be aptly applied to yet another man who was robbed during the time he should have been at home adhering to the 7:00 pm – 5:00 am curfew in place for the entire Virgin Islands.

A man is now seeking the help of officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) to find a man who allegedly took some $4,000 from a gambling table between 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm last night, June 2, 2020.

According to information reaching our news centre, the robbed man, along with about three or four others, was gambling at an abandoned building in the Carrot Bay community.

The victim had opted to be the light bearer by using a mobile phone.

It is alleged that because he couldn’t play, hold his money and the phone all at the same time, he put his cash of some $4,000 on the table when the accused (name provided) came into the building, grabbed the money from the table and fled.

The victim alleged that he clearly identified the robber man as he followed him while pleading for the return of his money but the accused hopped into an awaiting vehicle and fled the area.

The victim is pleading with police to help him retrieve his money.

Man shot & rob during curfew hours

It was around 1:00 am on Sunday, May 31, 2020, that a man was shot during a robbery in Purcell Estate, Tortola.

According to reports, the victim, along with others, was on the 'Purcell Public Road' when they were approached by three men wearing masks.

One of the men was robbed of jewellery and cash before being shot twice, once in the abdomen and in the groin.

The victim, originally from Virgin Gorda, is said to be in stable condition at Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital.

I was thinking the same thing. You cannot ask the law for help if you are out doing illegal things. You don't listen to police who say curfew time, noe want police to help you. Karma got you. Not only that, in this time of unemployment, claiming you can't pay rent, bills, buy food, but you had $4,000 to gamble with, and letting others know you have it, it pure stupidity. Money gone and lesson learned. What a moo moo.

Sure, the police should try and help him recover the $4000.00. After which they should fine him $4000.00 for wasting their time due to the fact that he was suppose to obey law and order.

I understand the sentiment of most persons here but just a reminder. It is not a defense for any potential accused person(s) that the victim himself was in violation of the curfew or that the money alleged to have been stolen was obtained illegally. An offense of Robbery or theft has been committed. What should be proven here is that a crime was committed and the defendant perpetrated the crime. Any other offense(s) should be dealt with.

Bunch of senseless people commenting. If the man is a robber lock him up. Before he rob you and me or trouble any person.

They went to the police instead of having murderous fighting back and forth.

Robbery is a serious thing. People getting hurt in the chain reaction.

This could have played out completely different. Headlines "Man shot/stabbed in carrot bay botched robbery, one in custody". Then all these people here typing non-sense because he did the right thing and went to the police instead.

If I was the police I would of help him find the $4000.00 then arrest him for breaking the curfew and let him add the additional $1000.00 and pay the court for disobeying the curfew.
