ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - When you sample a bite-size piece of red snapper on top of a matching piece of fungi, topped with shredded mango chutney and the flavours saturate your mouth, all you can say to yourself is "Fungi and fish never tasted so good!"

That was just a sample of the culinary experience delivered by the BVI International Culinary Team to anyone who turned up at last night's, October 18, 2019, launch of the BVI Food Fete 2019 and was left craving for another sample plate or two of that fungi and fish ensemble.

Culinary Delights

It was the main highlight of the launch event held at Craft Alive and was prepared by the award-winning culinary team leader and members Tonya Malone-Smith and Radience Modest.

The event drew a large audience, and also featured storytelling by the famous educator—after who the Territory's main high school is named—Mr Elmore Stoutt, who also led the Razor Blades Band with live entertainment throughout the night.

More music came from Akim Johnson and the sounds of his steel pan bellowing throughout Road Town to serve as yet another attraction to draw people to the event.

BVITB's Tourism Liason Officer Clive McCoy had the honour of declaring the event open while admonishing all to support as many of the events as possible which spreads throughout the month of November, ending at Anegada with the Lobster Fest on November 30 and December 1, 2019.

Support the Team - Hon Flax-Charles

Highlighting the integral roles played by youths in the entertainment and culinary industries was Junior Minister for Tourism, Honourable Shereen D. Flax-Charles (AL) who also made calls for support to be given to the team during and after the annual BVI Food Fete.

"Please come out and help us to showcase our culture which includes our food and there will be lots of music," she said.

The Minister noted that most of all, she wants all to support the youths in the community who play their part in preserving culture, "The musicians and of course, the culinary team," she added.
