ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – He was considered a comedian and a family man whose life was snatched away too soon, and colleagues and friends of Felix Ramon Colon Beltre aka Freddy don’t want the Dominican Republic (DR) national’s death to be an unsolved one.

The 34 year-old died from his injuries at Peebles Hospital after being shot several times in the vicinity of his workplace D’Bella Beauty Salon and Barber Shop, Upper Main Street a little after 8 p.m. on Friday August 26, 2011.

He was working in the Virgin Islands (VI) for about two and half years before his untimely demise. And according to Elfi Rivas and Eric Sanchez, both barbers at D’Bella, their friend will be greatly missed.

The duo was in DR when the tragic incident occurred but was present for the funeral that took place there.

“I really felt it for his family especially his children,” Rivas disclosed to Virgin Islands News Online. “And I pray the police catch the killer soon!”

He fondly recounted his colleague as the comedian of the bunch, who entertained customers with his stories and pranks. “He was a very happy person.”

In remembrance of their colleague, painted on one of the walls in the barber shop is a large electrical razor with Freddy’s name - also on one of the mirrors, newspaper articles surrounding his death and a photograph are on display.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Turnbull, who told this news agency he was a close friend of the deceased man, said Freddy was a hardworking person and was always speaking with pride about his four children.

He added, “To me he was an older brother I never had…he was all about working hard and supporting his family.”

Likewise, another friend remembered seeing Freddy the day before the fateful shooting and recalled him being “cool as usual”.

“I would love for the police to find the murderer because come on nobody is supposed to take somebody’s life. They did not give it to them why should they take it? I really don’t want to see his death go down as an unsolved murder,” the friend further stated.

To date, Police have not arrested anyone for the shooting.

Following the shooting, Deputy Commissioner of Police David Morris had stated, “The public is outraged at this senseless and cowardly act and the impact is being felt particularly among the Hispanic community. We are asking the community to work with us. We are seeking any information that can lead to the perpetrator’s identity because we know many persons were in the area during that evening.”

Furthermore, Argelis Amparo, 29, who was in the company of Freddy on that tragic evening, had received gunshot wounds to both of his thighs. This news agency understands he is currently overseas.
