ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Having suffered defeat after defeat to Cedar School over the last three or four years, Francis Lettsome Primary School (FLPS) finally lifted the BVI Rugby Union’s Inter Primary School Championship Trophy on the A.O. Shirley Grounds yesterday May 30, 2013.

The final, a very tense game of cat and mouse between FLPS and Enis Adams Primary School (EAPS) had to go into a second period of extra time as the two teams remained deadlocked at 1-1.

Cletus Banis had given EAPS the early advantage, but the teams went into the half time break tied at 1-1 after Jason Potter had equalized in the right hand corner for FLPS.

The seven minute second half came and went with much probing and prodding from both teams, but both defensives kept straight unbreakable lines to thwart their opposite numbers.

The first period of extra time saw the teams still inseparable with the same stoic defense, attempted breakaways and quick passing moves belying some tired legs.

Potter though is a superb athlete and it was he who made the vital score to send the gathered crowd of FLPS supporters and overjoyed Coach, Mrs. Latoya Staples, into rapture.

The match for 3rd/4th saw Cedar beat Leonora Delville Primary 2-1

The semi finals had seen FLPS overcome Cedar 4-2 with scores coming from Potter (2), Avery Roach and Makembe Fahie, whilst Nina Forte scored for Cedar. EAPS also put four past LDPS with scores coming from Niquan Toddman, Koen Penn, Akeil Turnbull and Kwayne Francis.

In the round robin stages Ivan Dawson Primary opened the day with a 4-2 defeat by Cedar. FLPS then beat EAPS 2-1 before Ebenezer Thomas Primary went down 3-2 to LDPS.

IDPS effectively knocked out ETPS handing them a second successive defeat, this time 2-0 and Cedar added the coup de grace with a 3-1 victory on scores by Liam Blok and Pippa Dabbs (2).

Other results included IDPS beating ETPS 2-0, Cedar losing to ETPS 1-0 and LDPS scoring the only goal of the game against IDPS.

The Primary School Festival starts a hectic week of Rugby with the Corporate Touch Finals on Wednesday at Capoons Bay, the Inter High School Tournament next Friday on the A.O. Shirley and a match up of the two local senior teams, the Arawaks and the Barbarians later the same day.
