GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI – Proprietor of the popular Foxy’s Bar, Philiciano O. Callwood aka ‘Foxy’, has announced the relaunch of the School of Music in Jost van Dyke on August 14, 2019.

According to the release, he noted that the purpose for the School is to provide free musical instruction for children of all ages on Jost van Dyke, 5 afternoons/evenings a week.

Community Initiative

“The School of Music was originally opened prior to Hurricane Irma and was well attended by its students; unfortunately, Hurricane Irma destroyed the building.”

They noted that with help from David and Katherine Dietrich, Tony Martin, Michael Richardson, The Motivational Edge, Monza and many others, the School of Music is ready for its relaunch.

“A Brand new building, course materials, instruments and recording equipment are all in place and ready for school to Begin,” the release said.

Citing the critical part music plays in the heritage and culture of the VI, the school will help youths to gain an appreciation for music.

Importance of Culture

“While many may worry that the culture of the Virgin Islands and particularly Festival time is being lost to modern customs and music, Foxy offers the School of Music as a great example of a grassroots effort to instil pride and love of culture in our children.”

The opening ceremony of the School of Music is scheduled for Wednesday, August 14, 2019, at the Foxy’s Bar compound in Jost van Dyke.

We really have a problem here in the BVI with reading. It clearly states, “...the School is to provide free musical instruction for children of all ages on Jost van Dyke....”
