ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Former BVI Athletic Association President, Johnny Hassan, made yet another donation to the Sport of Track and Field, on Saturday February 22, 2014, during the 9th Development Meet, with a presentation of tables and chairs for officials.

For the longest while, those officials recording measurements in field events at BVIAA and other track meets in the Territory, had to stand or hunt down a chair or bench to use, but now those days are over thanks to Hassan, who ran the sport from 1974 to 1976.

He handed over the donation during the 9th Development Meet and the 30” utility tables and 6 chairs  were immediately put to use at the various stations including the Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, Ball Throw, Javelin Throw and High Jump.

Those who have to monitor the wind gauges will also feel the benefit of a little more comfort during a long day or evening of events.

It is not the first time Hassan has provided a much needed and timely donation of equipment to the Association. Water Coolers for the Athletes being one such other useful contribution and of course he sponsors the Johnny Hassan Relays with monetary prizes for the top teams on the night.

Those relays were held the previous week and the cheques were presented to representatives from Fire and Rescue, Top Notch, Sprint Tech and Raw Skillz Track Clubs who had the top teams at the Meet.

In a press release the BVIAA thanked the Ex-President and long-time supporter of Athletics.

“On behalf of athletes and officials, the BVI Athletics Association sincerely thanks Johnny Hassan for his contributions. Anyone interested in donating to the BVI Athletics Association can call 284.541.3545 for more details.”

Apart from during the Primary School Zone II and Zone III Championships the tables and chairs will get their next outing at the BVIAA’s 10th Development Meet on Saturday Night at the A.O. Shirley Ground.

Good sportmanship Mr Hassan. Also congrats to all the recepients. More persons and businesses need to adopt from always looking to government. We have too much events for the govt to have to sponsor everything.
