CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI – When the Band Steel pulse releases any album, takes any stage or be among any gathering they are said to be one band that does not only perform but always has a solid message to their audience.

Mr. David R. Hinds is the lead man in that band and following a sterling performance on stage at the beach at Myett’s in Cane Garden Bay, Tortola, Virgin Islands (VI) in the wee hours of Sunday July 6, 2014, he had an exclusive interview with Virgin Islands News Online where he poured out his heart to youths of today.

“What the youths are doing right now in all walks of life and all different parts of the world, the similarities that I find, I don’t know if it is the same here in Tortola, but they have this thing about turf and gang,” said Mr Hinds.

He said that of the many ills that this kind of lifestyle causes the worse is that it is tearing families and neighbourhoods apart as they try to divide turfs that really do not belong to them. “This is a load of nonsense.”

He stress that one of the key methods of tackling this issues has to be through education. “Education is forever the key,” he said adding, “Getting involved in gangs or trying to make divisions – we are already divided as it is- they need to know that having a division within a division the consequences are going to be further south.”

“My message to you youths is educate yourselves. That is forever the key and who would want to be joining gangs and want to keep separatism and divisions over nonsense of a turf that you don’t own, please wake up and live,” he urged the youths of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean region as a whole.

Hinds said that especially at a time when the Caribbean region celebrates its emancipation from the bond of slavery it is more the better time to ensure that among the fun, frolic and festivities organizers should as far as possible ensure that they focus on education for the youths.

“Our people need to know their roots, especially our youths of today, we come here during that season when the Caribbean over will be soon celebrating emancipation and so I urge that we grab our youths, educate them, let them know well the meaning of what our fore parents did for them and for us and let’s get our youths back on line, they need it, they are calling for it but they are channeling their calls in the wrong was so let’s educate them,” said an emotional Mr. Hinds.
