ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – As dozens of vendors displayed their local food and beverages at the 2013 Cultural Food Fair today, August 2, 2013 Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn reflected that this was one avenue through which Virgin Islands Culture is being kept alive. The event was held at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park.

Food fairs, he said, have become an integral part of traditions in the Virgin Islands and offer an opportunity to sell local dishes, drinks, pastries and preserves.

The event featured an assortment of fruits and vegetables, local beverages, pastries and food including conch, fish, mutton and much more.

The Culture Minister further noted that in recent times the Food Fair, which is held during the Festival Celebrations, has been adjusted to a cultural fair to allow other elements such as food and drinks to be included in the event.

He saw it as a fitting change that could now incorporate cultural entertainment, including fungi music, steel pan and moko jumbies as well as other vendors to enhance the presentation of the event.

This year’s event was also held in honour of Ms Mirrleese Newton for her contribution to the fair over the years and was sponsored by National Bank of the Virgin Islands and FirstCaribbean Bank.

      @ X-ray

As your name suggest, you might probably need an x-ray with the amount of time you take spending on that dude as you put it. You need to get over it, he is from here and he is an elected minister and there's nothing you and I can do about it. Get over it before you end up in the hospital taking that x-ray from heart attack or some mental problem.

No, we don't. We know who born where, and we know who born here, so "no problem." As for this Antiguan, he need to go siddung bout BVI culture. His idea of BVI culture is anything but our culture. More like Jamaican, Filipino and wealthy North American.

I didn't even know it had an ole time market day by the Olva Georges Plaza today. Was it advertised but I just didn't hear or see any notices about it? I don't want to come out and say it was poorly advertised, but I went there and there was hardly anyone there. I am glad I went and I was able to pick up some drinks and other stuff for when the family comes over from St Thomas over the weekend. Why the 2 events on the same day though? Just asking!!
