ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Following the recent spate of vandalism of cables from the telecommunications company, FLOW, including two separate instances recently, Marketing Launch Manager of FLOW Sarah Graham has sounded an appeal to the general public to aid them as they try to find the culprit(s).

In an exclusive interview with this news site, Graham said they are even looking at installing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in an effort to prevent a recurrence.

“It is not the first time, no, we have been experiencing a spate of these. We had a number in December and this is the second occurrence this year,” she said.

According to her, cables were cut on Great Mountain and near Rudy’s Bar in Chalwell.

Vandalism a setback

Graham explained that the damage caused to the cables is dangerous and inconveniences their customers.

“It’s frustrating for us while we are trying to repair the network and we have been investing a lot and working hard to try to improve the broadband for the customers. This kind of activity just slows down the progress and diverts the resources we have to repair them. It is inconvenient for the customers and it’s dangerous as well because their fixed lines get cut off and they are not able to make calls if they have an emergency,” she pointed out.

Public appeal for support

“We would like to appeal to the public to be vigilant and to report to the Road Town Police or Officer Brad Remy if they are aware of the identity of the vandal or if they are able to help with the investigation in any way. We are currently looking at installing CCTV cameras and trying to identify other ways to protect the cables but, in the meantime, we would really appreciate the help of the public to try to identify the persons doing this.”

The Marketing Launch Manager of FLOW urged their many customers to be patient with them and said FLOW regrets any inconvenience the vandalism of the cables may have caused.

Meanwhile, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) did not immediately respond to queries on the alleged vandalism of FLOW's network cables.

Maybe they should consider protecting their cables with material that can't be cut so easily. I am so tired of seeing sloppy work in this place. Install your stuff properly and you won't have this problem.

I don't support the action mentioned in the story but, maybe it's some customer who is paying top dollar for poor service and had enough. Each time it rains telephone service is disrupted in that area. Internet, its never stable. Give us better service. What is the TRC doing to protect the consumers?

If "parna" think he hurting FLOW, he lie. All he doing is irritating customers. If he feel so wronged by them start your own telecoms and do as you will. If you don't like what you got try sat internet but then again he must be on CCT (speeds vary no matter where you run to).

Whoever is doing this is some type of idiot. If he is angry or have some type of personal grudge, then he should use the cable cutter on his ding a ling instead of the cable wire.

They should have been electrocuted when they hit those live wires, then we would have known who did this. What a moron this person is. They have hurt so many of us who had to go without service.
