ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Floriano Farrington today May 20, 2016 appeared in the Magistrate’s Court charged with two counts of threatening language and has been placed on bail in addition to being sent to the Sandy Lane Drug Rehabilitation Programme of the Ministry of Health and Social Development Community Health Services.

The court heard that on August 3, 2015 in Belle Vue, on the main island of Tortola in the territory of the Virgin Islands, Farrington used threatening language against two officers of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force - Javier Smith and Karen Vanterpool, saying to each of them “I gon kill you mudda sk--t.”

The defendant pleaded guilty to both counts of the charges against him.

The court heard that on the day in question, Monday August 3, 2015 at around 3.34 pm, Police Constable Javier Smith and Karen Vanterpool were on duty when they were called to the scene of a domestic dispute in Belle Vue.

The court heard that Smith observed Farrington allegedly with a piece of aluminum pipe in his hand and that he appeared aggressive. After a short intervention by the person who called the Police, the officers approached Farrington and told him to calm down.

The accused allegedly replied, “Allyoh can’t f--king touch me...I gon kill allyoh mudda sk--t.”

The court heard that even after the officers continued to call on the accused to calm down, he allegedly continued to wave the pipe at them menacingly.

The accused was subsequently tackled and subdued by the officers. He was arrested after.

Farrington told the court that he was drunk and disorderly and that things got out of hand.

“I would like you to be lenient on me because I am going through anger management classes,” Farrington told the court.

The defendant had been a part of the Family Support Network (FSN) anger management programme mandated by the court for a previous matter. Counselor at the FSN Dr Sylvia M. Simmonds was present in court and reported that while Farrington has completed the anger management programme, she was recommending further in patient care because of his challenges with alcohol.

Senior Magistrate Tamia N. Richards told Farrington, “I am going to send you to the Sandy Lane Centre,” and directed him how to find it at the Peebles Hospital. She also warned him to remember his date of September 9, 2016 for reporting. His signed bail was set in the amount of $25,000.
