Flax Craft brings out new line of products
Today December 3, 2014 the new line will be launched at the store frontage which sits between the doors of the BVI Tourist Board Offices (BVITB). The pieces that will be on show include bracelets, pendants, earrings, chains, and cuff-links among others.
The Flax team of Mr and Mrs Keith L. Flax and Rosemarie Flax and their children Attorney at Law in the Office of the VI Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mrs Annjel X. Flax-Solomon, Dr. Allison C. Flax-Archer and Dr Aasha-Marie Flax-Miller have seized every visionary opportunity to make their pieces creative and unique with the finest of quality.
Speaking with this news site yesterday December 2, 2014 about what has led to their new line, Mrs Flax explained that as a person who would have traveled to several countries in her lifetime, she would have had many instances where she saw things, souvenir pieces, that she would have loved to purchase but was on many occasions deterred by the fact that they were in most cases too big or too heavy and would have required being shipped of air mailed.
She said that led her to the realization that this might be the very case of many tourists visiting the Virgin Islands and the vision to create something that carries minimum weight. They have produced the pieces which carry the maps and names of the four bedrock Islands of the Territory, Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada and Jost Van Dyke.
“When someone wears any piece of these it reminds them of their BVI experience. There are also pieces that advertise the BVI and would promote discussions about the BVI that can lead to others who would not have been to the BVI wanting to do so because the person wearing the piece would tell about their wonderful experience in the BVI and its little secrets,” said Ms Flax.
Prior to today’s launch the couple Mr and Mrs Flax, out of an abundance of respect recently made a courtesy call on Premier and Minister of Finance Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith sharing with him their newest beat in promoting the tourism product of the VI. They also presented the Premier with a pair of cuff links from their new line, something he will wear with pride.
Though they may be seen as new to some, others would recall them thriving in the business since the early 1970’s. Flax Craft first got into the business in 1974. In 1984 it became an incorporated company. They continued the process of making jewellery by hand until 1986 when they were forced to close.
On July 11, 2014 the doors of Flax Craft were re-opened and the business has been thriving since with no sign of ever closing again. All the pieces in the store are hand made by the husband and wife and when the children get an opportunity they are sure to throw in their bit by sharing an idea, helping putting pieces together, interacting with customers among several other things that keep them bonded.
