ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- According to the Department of Disaster Management (DDM), an intense trough will move across the area today, November 28, 2016 and is likely to bring showers and thunderstorms across the islands for today and tonight.

Persons have been inquiring from this news site whether public schools will be closed for the day since they reported that it has been raining since early last night in some parts of Tortola. However, there has been no announcement from the Ministry of Education.

According to information on the DDM’s website, “Some of the showers could be heavy at times and may require flash flood watches or warnings later today.”

WX: today: Partly cloudy becoming increasingly cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Some of the showers could be heavy at times and could cause flash flooding, especially in low lying and flood prone areas. Tonight: Cloudy to overcast with showers and possible few isolated thunderstorms.

Winds: ESE – SE 10-15 kts or 19to 28km/h and gusting higher in showers.

Seas: moderate waves 1.2 to 1.8m or 4 to 6 ft. Small craft operators and sea bathers should exercise caution.

Atmospheric pressure: below normal

Sunset today:  5:41 P.M.

Sunrise tomorrow:  6:33 A.M.

      Haven't you noticed the bad state of the roads and around many buildings? Because of poor drainage and rocks tumbling down road when a little bit of rain or wind come sometimes you can barely pass or get to your car. Imagine children that have to walk. Remember that some of the Gov't schools are not as well maintained as private schools. Safety of our children must come first.

    My kids went to school. I cook a big pot of cow foot and tripe soup and homemade bread. When they get home, they will have a hot meal, homework, snuggle with mommy for a few, watch some TV and off to bed.
