ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Fashion and competition took another level, one that has fashion designers biting their finger tips and the management of UMI spinning on a medal, when First Bank BVI and BVI Health Services Authority (BHIHSA) took to the cat walk on Friday October 25, 2013 in the UMI Fashion's Battle of the Corps (BOC) showdown.

It was Funky Fashion Friday with a massive difference with the return of the BOC Fashion Showdown, 'Choose it or lose it'. The first showdown saw First Bank BVI and BVI Health Services Authority putting on a strong competion, a show of creativity and great entertainment.

At the end of the evening, First Bank emerged the winners and, according to patrons, it was well deserved.

The promoters said they were overwhelmed by the turnout of patrons at the store frontage and the energy they brought to the competition. They said patrons had a huge part to play in motivating the participating teams to put out their best in the competition.

November 1, 2013 is the date set for the next show and Virgin Islands News Online was told that the competition is very likely to take on a new dimension judging from the standard set by the first two participating teams.

When UMI held the first BOC in 2006, the overall audience turnout in the series saw over 800 persons. Already in this come-back of the Fashion showdown and competition it is evident that number will be surpassed in short order.

A segment of the show on Friday was a ‘Pink Out’ display of fashion as UMI showed its support towards the fight for a cure to the chronic illness that has a strong presence in the Virgin Islands- Cancer. Several members of the BVI Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Club and others for the cause were on the spot to savor the moment dedicated by UMI.

Now that its back, Battle of the Corps has become one of the most talked about events for UMI. The last Company to hold the coveted title of Battle of the Corps Catwalk Champs is the BVI Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) but whether they will be able to hold on to that title this time around is one of the big questions on the streets.

In announcing the return of the completion recently, Ms Deborah O’Neal said this time around they are coming with an even bigger and better showdown.

“This year our audiences are not only going to have the ability to view this spectacular event in person, but the Ultimate Catwalk Showdown will also be streamed via live feed online and on television. In an effort to extend ourselves to include all sectors and corporations in the British Virgin Islands, Government, Statutory bodies, as well as companies on the Sister Islands will also be given the opportunity to participate,” she had said.

The BOC series will extend until December 6, 2013 as three companies will compete bi-weekly for the Battle of the Corps title. The winner from the previous show moves on to meet two new companies the following week. This will all lead up to the Ultimate Catwalk Showdown that will take place in December.

All shows will be judged by a panel of three judges, however, the determining and ultimate judge will be the crowd support.

No one will have to buy the clothes they are lying on the ground in!! The clothing for the opening segments come from the teams NOT from UMI. The clothing from the other two segments which are provided by the store go on a sale rack and are drastically discounted immediately after the show.
