ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The British Virgin Islands Tourist Accommodation Properties (BVITAP) in collaboration with the BVI Tourist Board held the first annual Hotel and Restaurant Trade Show at Maria’s by the Sea today June 4, 2014, showcasing a number of exhibits germane to the hospitality sector.

From all indications, the show dazzled as it gave exhibitors to showcase what they can offer the industry said to be so vital to the economy of the Virgin Islands.

“The customer is King and we should be happy to make them feel this way,” said Wilbert A. Mason, General Manager of Peter Island Resort and Spa, delivering remarks at the opening of the trade show.

He said that the aim of businesses in the sector should be to attract and retain the profitable customers who stay with them for a long time and who keep coming back.

“Our goal must be to create the kind of experience that will: attract customers to purchase or try our products and services; persuade our customers to pay the prices we would like for us to be profitable, encourage them to select our business all the time, interest them in buying more from us and inspire them to tell others about us (word of mouth is still the number #1 form of advertising),” he said.

“These are just some of the guidelines that we use at the Peter Island Resort to ensure that we provide the best service to our customers…allowing us to remain competitive. I hope you find this information beneficial as we have."

The trade show’s objective is to develop and foster a working relationship “that would be beneficial to vendors and the accommodation properties in the Territory and to provide information to business owners that would help them to better manage and market their businesses,” according to the organisers.

This event was advertised on the radio, newspaper and on Facebook... The organizers were also on Doug Wheatley's show promoting and telling people to come out!

Because they did minimal promotion. These folks don't understand the importance of updating their contacts. Same folks....same old ways of doing things. I see representatives of Trade Division there as well.......what was done to let other businesses know of the show. Come on people.....get up from behind those desks.

Some people never have anything positive to say their job it seems is to just sit around be negative and not contribute. "I'm Thinking" if you have something positive to contribute or some actual constructive criticism on how they can improve and be better next year, contact them and offer some help or expertise. Or is it that your expertise is to be negative and to bash?

So you are telling me that I should not have an opinion........so typical. Since when people here want the advice of anybody that's not in their little groups.

The show was a wonderful gesture, I hope it can be done annually. Love the display of the first vendor in the picture. Young people are going to become our next leaders, lets support them.

Please don't take Beef Island just to build another hotel. Focus on Prospect Reef first.
