BREWERS BAY, Tortola, VI – A fire suspected to be of electrical origin was earlier today, September 2, 2012 prevented from causing extensive damage to nearby lives and property, as it was put out just in the nick of time.

According to information reaching this news site from its team of reporters around the Virgin Islands (VI), is that a group of BVI Electricity Corporation workers had been conducting some electrical works near the affected area when a reported spark broke out from a cable and caught the nearby grass.

The surrounding area quickly caught on fire, but was ably contained by the VI Fire and Rescue firefighters who aggressively attacked the blaze and minimized any potential damage.

The affected location contained a small makeshift structure and was predominantly surrounded by vegetation and rocks. A house stood just adjacent to the location as well.

Persons in the nearby area described what appeared to be billowing smoke emanating from the location earlier in the day.

According to this news site's sources, the fire and rescue department is currently conducting investigations into the actual cause and origin of the fire.

No one from the Disaster Management Department was available for comments as of press time.
