Fire officers contain blaze at Sea Cows Bay junkyard!

SEA COWS BAY, Tortola, VI – Search and Rescue officers rushed to the junk yard in Sea Cows Bay, where cars and other electrical items are crushed, a little after 11 a.m. today May 1, 2012 after a spark ignited a blaze which was quickly contained by fire officers.

William Penn, Chief Fire Officer (ag), who was at the scene told Virgin Islands News Online that investigations indicated some metal caught afire while workers were doing welding when the incident occurred.

One of the crushers, according to Penn was damaged. In addition to that, a few telephone wires were scorched.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

    some of the children at the school parents had to be called to pick up their kids because of all that smoke it is high time ayo get all these pollution out of the 3rd district seams like ayo trying to stiffle the people of the third but where their is smoke watch out for the fyah

    Let me offer some advice. Off duty fire officers need to get some beacons for their cars they use so people when seeing them deployed to an emergency can pull to the side. Let the public know the protocol so when they see the guys coming they can move aside.
