EAST END, Tortola, VI- Fire broke out at the Bar Bay Water Plant in East End, on the main island of Tortola, on the evening of March 23, 2017; however, it was contained before major damages could have been done.

According to reports reaching this news site, no one was injured and the operation of the plant has not been affected.

The fire reportedly broke out at the water plant’s generator house sometime around 8:00 PM.

According to Chief Fire Officer, Zebalon A. McLean, investigations have begun.

Mr McLean said Virgin Islands Fire and Rescue was alerted of the fire at 8:14 PM and responded promptly.

“The fire is extinguished. The generator house experienced fire and smoke damage. The water plant itself was not affected,” Mr McLean, who joined his charges in responding to the fire, told this news site last night, March 23, 2017.

It is not clear to this news site at this time what may have started the fire.

IT CLEARLY STATES THAT IT WAS THE GENERATOR HOUSE THAT WAS ON FIRE.

Really? What an ignorant (in the true sense of the word) comment. It's not a lake -- it's a water PLANT, which means there is machinery.

You got jokes...lol but it was probably electrical, or some malfunction in the machinery. But I do appreciate your humour.

So here is another prime example of spending money on the latest machinery and processing equipment and not having competent people to run it and perform basic maintenance.
The power plant also had generator failures earlier this week.
We can purchase all the latest technology we want but we need trained, skilled personnel to run it and that is what we are lacking.
This equipment came with sensors that warn when components are over-heating and I know for a fact that these alarms are not functioning properly and have not been replaced.
