VALLEY, Virgin Gorda, VI – Lead singer for the popular Final Faze band Mariam ‘Miri’ Marks has been invited to perform solo at the Aruba Reggae Festival in November.

Marks, who hails from a family of musicians, is no stranger to hitting it big on the international stage as a member of the Final Faze band, however, this newest venture to Aruba is seen as a double ground breaking opportunity for her, thanks to her being recognised and invited by the Aruba Reggae Festival Committee.

Speaking with this news site in an invited interview, Ms Marks said she was in awe when she received the invitation to perform solo at the concert. She explained that the concert is a reggae affair and it’s the first time that she would be performing solo reggae at such a level.

“You have seen us opening for quite a number of artists last year. It started with Beres Hammond, Freddie McGregor, Third World, Shaggy, Steel Pulse, and Morgan Heritage. Final Faze has been recognised for good music, so as a lead singer I was invited to Aruba as an artist. It has so happened that I released a reggae song about the same time.”

‘Miri’ said she is currently working on releasing a reggae album, something that is relatively new for her. One of her songs 'In my life' has already been released and is making waves as an inspirational piece across airwaves.

“I wrote my own lyrics and composed the melody as well. This is the song that is playing on six radio stations in Aruba. I will be performing ‘In my life’, along with another original not yet released song called ‘What we need is love’ and a few well known reggae covers.

“Just to give you a little story, I wrote and composed this song a few years ago and worked with YungBlood (her brother and member of Final Faze band) as record producer in an R&B version, but never released it on air. We used the chorus for an advertisement. I decided to revamp it and turn it into a reggae song, called ‘Carol’ and created a new flavour,” said Ms Marks.

The song, she said, was produced by New Yorker Mr Carol Hodge of Osha Production. “He met me in St Thomas and we took one day in the studio, got the song done and you know the rest is history. The next thing I know I was on the line up for November 7th in the Aruba Reggae Festival as a solo artist,” said an elated Ms Marks.

Among other reggae artists expected to hit the stage for the Aruba One Love Concert are Junior Morgan, Protégé, Janine among others well known the world over.

According to Ms Marks, the Aruba Reggae Festival Committee has written the BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) informing of her invitation to perform at its festival.
