Crown Dependencies reconsider public registers of beneficial ownership
ST PETER PORT, Guernsey- Following the November 2022 ruling of the European Union Court of Justice to strike down the European Union (EU) mandate for public registers of beneficial ownership of all companies, the governments of Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Jersey have jointly announced they are delaying the implementation of legislation to implement full public access to registers of company beneficial ownership.

Unity Gov’t slammed for ignoring concerns with Register of Interests bill
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands Civil Service Association (VISCA) has slammed the National Unity Government of Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) for trying to swiftly pass the Register of Interests Act in the House of Assembly (HoA) despite the many concerns by both HoA Members and public servants and the lack of consultation on the Bill.

Taking away financial services a ‘human rights’ issue- Premier Smith
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- “Here we are as a Territory, we had one of the most severe natural disasters in a hundred years in the Caribbean and the BVI took the brunt of it. We had three things; flooding, plus Hurricanes Irma and Maria, which, left the Territory devastated. I think it was against human rights provisions to be able to now go and say we are going to take away the other part of your economy.”

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Interim Executive Director of BVI Finance Mrs Lorna G. Smith OBE has come to the defense of the territory being labelled a tax haven, penning an article in Scottish newspaper The Sunday Herald of December 26, 2017, in which she admonished that persons not mistake privacy for secrecy.
