ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- There was another scare for prison officers yesterday, February 28, 2013 as inmates of Her Majesty’s Prison in Balsum Ghut became uneasy following the stabbing of Wakima Lettsome.

HMP admonished to hire locally

ROAD TOWN, Tortola - Minister for Education and Culture Hon. Myron V. Walwyn this morning, February 21, 2013 admonished that those conducting interviews to fill vacancies at Her Majesty Prison (HMP) to do everything possible to hire locally. "He who has ears let him ear," Hon. Walwyn stated emphatically.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola VI- The late Superintendent of Prisons Richard Dacosta Holder was laid to rest today December 19, 2012 amid glowing tributes from the upper echelon of society including Premier Dr the Honourable D. Orlando Smith and Governor Boyd McCleary.

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - Almost three weeks since well known Superintendent of Prisons Richard Holder passed away, no funeral date has yet been confirmed for his burial. Mr Holder died on November 24, 2012.

Prison Officers took a total 897 sick leave days in 2011- Report

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- A total of eight hundred and ninety seven (897) sick leave days were taken by prison officers of Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Balsum Ghut during 2011, which has been suggested was mostly as a result of staff disgruntlement.

Drug possession charge dropped against convicted youth

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - David Turnbull, who appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on July 27, 2012, to answer a charge of unlawful possession of Cannabis, which he pleaded not guilty to, had the charge dismissed by Magistrate Tamia Richards.

Only 13 out of 72 staff are locals at Her Majesty’s Prison

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - After learning when the Governor’s Office appeared before the 2012 Standing Finance Committee (SFC) that both the Governor and the Ministry of Education and Culture were responsible for the prison with “gray” areas, the Superintendent of Her Majesty’s Prison Richard Holder has also added to the confusion.
