PORT PURCELL, Tortola, VI – Said to have been carrying out his assigned duties late yesterday afternoon December 13, 2014 Juan R. Navarra fell to his death at Port Purcell according to reliable sources.

According to information reaching this news site, it is yet to be determined what resulted in in Navarra falling overboard but it was dark at the time when he was observed to have fallen into the sea. According to sources, by the time he was determined to have been in danger efforts to rescue him were too late.

“It was dark and when [another man] dived to try to get him; it was just too dark and it was said [that] he drowned. I am not sure if he could or could not swim, I don’t know if he hit his head in the process or what but I know a family lost a father and that’s really sad,” said one source.

The man was said to have been 52 years old and had resided in Long Look, Tortola. He was the father of three and said to be a Filipino national who has been living and working in the Virgin Islands for close to four years now.

This news site awaits word from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) for further details.

Sorry to hear that...very sad, may his family find solace in God's Word during this time of bereavement. RIP Perhaps the Ports needs to investigate and use this as a catalyst to perhaps install adequate lighting and fencing to avoid such a calamity from occurring again or whatever it takes to make it safe. Again my condolences.

The docks need to be secured with gate or fence

My condolences to the family of the deceased. I think it's a little too soon to jump to the conclusion of the dockside needing fencing or gates since the details are still sketchy. Plus the dock is designed for it's intended purpose and more security such as fencing would probably render the docks functional. Perhaps adequate lighting and CCTV (once monitored constantly by security personnel) is needed As it was said, he was carrying out his assigned duties, whatsoever they may be. There may be a little more to this than we are privy to at the moment. The general public will just have to wait and see.

Please consider, you say "gate or fence" but what's the use of gate with out the fence being in place? Also, according to the article, he fell overboard and that means he must have been onboard - that means a vessel. boat, ship or a barge unless author of this article had another thing in mind. Respect for the family, god bless.
