ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- FIFA Vice-President and candidate for the Presidency, Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan has arrived in the territory and will be visiting the site for the new stadium in East End today April 17, 2015.

Prince Ali’s arrival and planned visit to the $3M project site were confirmed to Virgin Islands News Online by General Secretary of the BVI Football Association (BVIFA) Mr Alfred Reid.

The FIFA Vice-President is also expected to make a courtesy call on Premier Dr The Honourable D. Orlando Smith and meet with members of the BVIFA Executive and Officials.

According to 1st Vice President, Aubrey Liburd, “This is a very important visit for the BVIFA as we are in the process of building the new stadium, and also for him to see what we are doing for football as an association and for the youths in the Territory. Also we are looking forward to hearing his vision for football in general and his plans or initiatives for the smaller FIFA Members such as ourselves,” a BVIFA press release stated.

The BVIFA was finally given approval for the project, part of the FIFA Goal Programme, by the Development Committee at a meeting chaired by FIFA Vice-President, Issa Hayatou in the presence of the Chairman of the FIFA Audit and Compliance Committee, Domenico Scala, back in March 2014.

The project includes a 400 meter track field, regulation-sized football field with associated facilities, netball court/volleyball court, concession stands and over 200 parking spaces. There will also be the construction of an access road between the parking lot and stadium by Andy's Car Wash.

Old saying - better to be quiet and appear intelligent, rather than open your mouth and remove all doubt.
Your comments are misinformed. The current earthworks are being financed by FIFA.

The project will benefit the BVI in the long round. Soccer/football is, or is quickly becoming the largest sport attraction in the world. Our own kids are now playing the sport with much enthusiasm, along with basketball, softball even cricket. Think Sport Tourism. Small businesses in the East End and the territory on a whole could reap the fruits of this venture. We will attract international/ regional games. One day one our kids could be the next Pele and the complex will not be demolished and removed from the BVI. It is time the Territory show the rest of the world that we are able to compete with the best at these levels. Paying a few millions now...if that is so, is not too much to invest in the future of our youths and country.

Please, please tell me they will be turning off the lights at night! Right now they leave them on all night for no reason. Wastes power and lights up my house like daylight.

The country makes enough money to do what needed to be done for this territory, rather than been sucked into debts that the community cannot pay for! what is the hurry! Do we know these people intention when they are willing to invest millions in our economy? We are to greedy and want to be like everyone else, we have no resources we need to be satisfied and not anxious to be like the rest of the world. SAD
