ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI –Junior Minister for Trade and Investment Promotion and Eighth District Representative Honourable Marlon A. Penn joined BVI Football Association (BVIFA) President, Andy Bickerton on Tuesday October 11, 2016 at the Botanic Garden Office to make several new announcements regarding the stadium at East End/Long Look.

The project started a few years ago as a public/private partnership and has now reached the point of moving on at full steam, with the drainage, pitch and flood light installation.

As Hon Penn stated, the project also entails a six lane 400m running track, a football pitch and netball/volleyball court. Provision is also being made for BVIFA Offices, changing rooms and other associated facilities.

“The Government has met our obligations to the BVIFA,” confirmed Hon Penn. “We have covered the ghuts, made improvements to the road and also worked on making an extended parking area. I want to reiterate the Government’s commitment to the project and it has the full support of caucus, the Project has a wider implication on our development as a country and for the East End/Long Look areas well as our tourism product,” Hon Penn stated.

The next stage of the project includes the drainage, the pitch installation and the erecting of the flood lights.

‘Upheavals’ @ FIFA level resolved

“There have been some delays, but now we are ready to make progress,” commented Bickerton.

According to him, “the project got caught up in upheavals at the FIFA level, but they are resolved.”

The project began back in 2013 and by September 2015 stage one was completed on time and by December 2015 the Government’s responsibility was concluded, the pitch consultants visited and submitted their valuations.

“The FIFA Presidential Elections of 2015 stalled the project, but the tendering process continued and contracts were awarded in April 2015. More FIFA issues caused further hold ups but by the end of August 2016 everything was signed, sealed and delivered.”

The project contractor visited and has given a schedule with a start date of October 17, 2016 and, as both Hon Penn and Mr Bickerton confirmed, the conclusion date of the pitch installation is late January, early February 2017

“We are excited because we will be able to hold our school league finals on the new site and that would be a great way to kick off our new ground. We can start to plan our football with greater confidence going forward,” concluded Bickerton.”

What does your comments have to do with the project at hand? The project for the most part is funded by FIFA with several millions being invested in our community.

We can't have a covered facilty in ever community that's why we're in the currrent financial situation we're in at this point. Wastage of money.

I agree about the sewage, they really need to tell Mark scatter his &$$.... The need to fight ferositiously to get the sewage fixed. I watch with eagle eyes to see what happens in the next budget cycle. We must hold our representatives responsible for this.

this is a waste of precious flat open space and lots for affordable housing or smaller facilities. This is too big and I bet will be sitting empty most of the time. Another ego trip. There are other sports organizations for youths that could have used that money. East End is congested as it is. Where is the parking? The pedestrian traffic patterns? restrooms? security for home owners? where is a master plan if a marina and other development is happening there? Waste.

Great project. Bad location. Where is the parking for a big game. How high will the fense walls be built.? I will think about 25 to 30 Ft. How good would that look in the area? Why give by water that nice piece of land in Parikita bay to waste time. Perfect location for the feild. I'm sure Fifa would have gave the Government 2 hundred million for that land. FIFA got Money.
