Fiery Selkridge named All American for third time!
Selkridge also figures to be among the top competitors for the National Player of the Year Award, which will be announced at the awards banquet on Wednesday.
Exactly 33 of the athletes honored on the AVCA All-America teams in 2012 are first-time recipients of the award. Selkridge is now a three-time AVCA All-American.
Selkridge, a 6-2 middle blocker and the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, leads the nation in hitting percentage at an astounding .503 clip entering the NCAA Tournament. The two-time Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week leads the Spartans with 368 kills, 27 solo blocks, 74 block assists, 101 total blocks and 433 total points. Selkridge is a three-time AVCA All-American after making the first team a year ago and the second team in 2010.
She was in sizzling form during the Conference final, putting in a career performance to give her team a trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
Tampa took the regional final 3-1 over Palm Beach Atlantic University to advance to the National Championship Tournament. Selkridge pummeled the Sailfish for 20 kills, committing a single attack error, good for a sizzling .655 hitting percentage. The South Region Player of the Year blocked four attacks in her final home match of her astounding career as a Spartan.
In the first set, Tampa won 25-22 with Selkridge swatting five kills. The fiery Selkridge smacked a 7-for-9 despite UT dropping the second set 25-21 to PBA. The Spartans plowed through the Sailfish in the third as a five-kill barrage from Selkridge gave Tampa a 25-12 win.
In the decisive fourth set, the home team scattered 12 kills to seal their bid to the Elite 8 with a 25-11 victory.
Tampa heads to the campus of the University of West Florida where they will face Wheeling Jesuit in the first round on Wednesday December 5, 2012.
