Get out more. Even during the day people rush through the red light. Turning them back on will only annoy good decent drivers because the idiots will still do as they please.

You are so right. If you come out by the French Deli to go East you take your life in your hands with the blinking light as cars from the east cannot see you until you are in the middle of the road and they are flying.

@solution; its a shame that people need a traffic light to tell them not to turn in front of an oncoming vehicle...

I will continue to argue the fact we need the presence of the police back on the public roads: the police are simply sitting at the police stations waiting on phone calls; the presence of the police is very important because the presence of police helps to prevent crime: we have persons driving during the night without lights and it is done because most of them know chance of being stop for driving without light is very slime also some of us full speed while some of us drunk and driving on public road because the chance of being stopped by the police is very slim: the police can't do everything but you hardly see any highway patrolmen.....

I agree 10000>%. The cops are needed on the roadways. All the areas that are heavily used. The heads are trained so they can do timetables. Half an hour here half an hour there. STOP WARMING CHAIRS IN THE OFFICE. GET OUT THERE. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

The lights were not on. They been off blinking red from early. Its stupid ito have lights off at such a major intersection.

TRAFFIC police needs to educate people on how to handle these blinking lights so there is no excuse. Common sense aint to cimmin these days. I wish i could sell it.

were u there ?the lights were off and I see no reasons why the lights are turned off ,the lights are there to regulate traffic no where in the world the turn off traffic lights

@ wise up: I agree with you and I lost a friend in that area few year ago because the traffic lights were no functional.....this is my personal opinion; all the traffic lights in the territory should remain fully functional at all times and some form of standby power installed in the event of power failure those traffic lights will remain fully functional....when the traffic lights are functioning some of us run the red-lights much less when the lights are not functioning: my simply input; when the lights are out due to power failure why cant the police assist with directing the follow of traffic because police should on duty 24 hour.......

The lights were installed to control traffic, and to avoid accidents. Is the lights been off makes government liable? I sometimes think the lights are on red so I stop. Only after a few second I realize they are actually off and blinking.. This seems to be a situation where one new the lights were turned off and the other didn't know or sure.

Don't blame no light for even when they are on in in the day with hot sun the drivers still hit up. some people think because they have the rightaway they should not give some one who are braking the traffic rule a brake so they cause an accident.many times I make room for other drivers who under estimate the distances and speed so I slow down as to give the room to pass safe And when they see what you have avoided they plow their horn as to say thanks. Now because u drivers have the rightaway you should drive with due care.Hope every one be safe from that accident. REMBER VEHICLES CANT FEEL PEOPLE DO. Drive safe. My GOD Bless and keep u all safe.

I don't know but from my experience when the lights are blinking red it becomes a four way stop sign you approach u stop u look at the flow of traffic and you move on u just don't move through a flashing light it becomes a stop and proceed sign,we act as though Tortola is a big place we are killing one another to go just around the corner once late u are late we must stop and realize that we are only killing our selves and our friends and family we need to stop there is too much going on we must stop and think before it's too late if it's not too late already

I don't see why we are blaming the lights when we all see people running red lights high day. So I must sit at a red light at 3am with no other traffic on the road....give me a break. People need to drive like they have sense and the Police need to show a greater presence, especially when there is a lot of traffic.

Why are the lights blinking anyway? It cost the same electricity. No saving here.
Yellow stands for CAUTION. If you want the lights blinking let them blink yellow - like every where else in the World. Why do we have to re-invent the wheel all the time?

Prayers and thoughts go out to the young lady. No comment on who was at fault, for I was not at the scene. Just a few general comments, though. If true, why were the lights turned off at 10:00 p.m.? Is it to save electricity? The lights can be set for a longer green along Carriageway, could they not? Where are motorists always speeding to go? Does the VI have the highest number of accidents per capital? Why don't motorists slow down and drive defensively? Speed maims, injures, disfigures, increases insurance, reduces national productivity, burdens the medical system, increases personal cost and kills. Slow down!

In the USA in residential areas, or smaller neighborhoods, traffic lights are "turned off" at night. Drivers are expected to use caution (common sense), hence the flashing yellow lights. Maybe this will serve as a cautionary tale for those of you speeding on the roads. Take your time and drive with caution, the island is only so big.
  • red light (17/10/2016, 09:17) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
Flashing red light should alert all drivers to proceed with caution. Some question why the lights are turned off after a certain time: it is assumed that drivers would use common sense and stop and proceed with due care. And as at the round a bout the driver on the right proceed first.

It looks silly to stop at a red light at 3 am and you are the only vehicle on the road. Maybe these things need to be a part of driver education as some drivers may not know what a flashing red light mean.

Then again we never follow rules. At Scotiabank there is a stop sign and I tried getting run down if I coming from Village Cay.
