ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Both Fearless and the Legs made winning starts to the best of three Championship series in the Back on our Feet, Short and Sweet Basketball League on Friday July 25, 2014, at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex (MPSC).

First up, in the Junior Division, was a 92-78 win for Fearless against the tenacious And One.

And One led through almost all of the first quarter to reach the break 22-20 and then managed to control the scoring to be still up by three at the half time break, 45-42.

Fearless kept plugging away and during a third quarter, in which the lead changed hand eight times, they reduced the deficit at the buzzer to just one point and then Franklyn Penn Junior spearheaded a demolition job in the last ten minutes to send Fearless to the brink of yet another Championship.

The lead changed hands 4 more times before the teams leveled out at 66-66 and then Penn Junior notched a two and went 2 for 2 from the free throw line to make the score 70-68. With 7 minutes to go Fearless opened their advantage to three and then the biggest margin of the game at 79-72.

At 82-78 And One had a glimmer of hope in making a comeback, but Penn Junior restored the six point advantage and then on successive drives he put the game to bed.

As the clock wound down Fearless were allowed to add a little gloss to the final score, but will go into Game 2 tonight full of confidence that they will finish the job.

Penn Junior finished with 35 points and 15 rebounds, Romain Minott 25 and 9 steals and Jomoiri Dagou 18 and 6 rebounds.

For And One, D’Moi Hodge scored 25 points with 6 rebounds and Akeem Nibbs 19 with 6 rebounds.
In Game one of the Senior Championship the Legs completed their third successive win in as many nights with a 102-89 victory over All Ah Wee.

All Ah Wee were in command for three quarters of the game, finishing the first period ahead by five and the half ahead by 7 at 47-40.

By the end of the third quarter the score was 77-67 and then the wheels came off for All Ah Wee as they were blown away in the fourth quarter by a determined Legs who are in no mood to hand over the Championship Trophy.

In a ruthless performance they outscored All Ah Wee by 23 points in the quarter to run out with the win and head into Game two tonight knowing they have what it takes to complete a sweep.

Khalid Gerard top scored with 32 points, Deon Edwin notched 30 and Kennedy Bass put away 23 and added 10 rebounds to his nights work

All Ah Wee were led by 19 points from Penn Junior, 18 from Terrique Wattley Junior and 16 from Phillip Glasgow Junior.

Action begins at 6.45pm tonight in the MPSC.
